FAQ’S

What is the Chino Mudder?

The Chino Mudder is a 5k (3.1 mile +/-) run over cross-country terrain. Along the way there are 20 military-like obstacles to overcome and maneuver and lots and lots of mud.

I've never run a mud run, what makes it different from a regular 5k?

A LOT! More people running over cross country and professionally built obstacles and multiple mud pits to run, crawl and jump through. Expect to get muddy (over and over again)!

What kind of obstacles will there be?

There are combinations of man-made and natural obstacles. Man-made obstacles are built by master-craftsman and include jump walls of varying height, tires to step through, ramps to climb up and over, cargo nets to climb and…wait…we can’t tell you everything. Oh, we will mention there’s mud.

What happens if it rains or there is a storm?

Public safety is our first concern. If it rains, the race will continue. It just makes for more mud anyway! If there is lightning present, we will postpone each wave until the lightning passes and is a safe distance from the venue.

Can a refund be issued if I am unable to attend?

No. We do not issue refunds as spots are reserved.  If you would like to transfer your entry to another participant, you may do so by visiting our registration site.

When should I arrive on race day?

Gates open at 8:00 am.  Please arrive at least one to one 1/2 hours prior to your wave time.  This will allow you to find a parking spot.  Get checked in, hydrate, stretch, and be ready at the start line.   If you miss your scheduled wave time you will have to wait until the next available wave time releases.

If I want to change my wave time the day of the event or miss my scheduled wave time what happens?

Please be sure of the wave time that you would like to participate in. If, for some reason, you are not able to make that wave time or miss your scheduled wave time, you will be allowed to race. However, you will have to wait until the next available wave.  In the case of a sold out event and you missed your wave time you registered for, you will not be able to run.

Can I change my wave time prior to the day of the race?

Yes.  However, you will only be able to transfer to another wave time that is not sold out.  You can visit your registration confirmation email for information on how to change details about your registration or wave time

Can I run barefoot?

Yes, it is your preference.  Do we recommend it? No. If you chose to run barefoot you accept any and all additional dangers that you could encounter from doing so.

How long will it take to complete the course?

Your pace and athletic level will determine the amount of time it takes you to complete the course.   For the average participant, you can expect that it will take one to one and 1/2 hours or more.

Do I have to know how to swim in order to participate?

No swimming is required. The mud pits are only a couple of feet deep and easy to wade through.

What if I can’t complete an obstacle or I don’t have the ‘courage’?

The Chino Mudder is about having fun and teamwork! If you need help on an obstacle, other participants or your team members can help! If you feel you need to skip an obstacle for any reason, please do so. Your safety is our main concern.

Will there be showers or place to clean up?

Whatever doesn’t wash off during any water encounters you may have, you can take care of at our rinse stations. We suggest a $ 1.00 contribution for showering with 100% of the proceeds going to a local, non-profit organization who will be operating the station. We still encourage bringing a clean change of clothes, which you can store at our locker facilities.  There are a limited amount of private facilities that you may change in.

Will there be water stations?

There will be water at the finish line.  We also have hydration stations setup at each obstacle where you can hydrate with water.  Don’t over-do it as it can cause muscle cramping.

Will there be first aid stations?

We will have emergency personnel onsite. There will be volunteers at each obstacles who can contact emergency personnel in the event of an emergency. For minor injury assessments, we will have a first aid personnel near the finish line with personnel to help you attend to your needs.

Will there be a place for personal belongings?

There will be a facility to check in personal items. The cost is $3 and 100% of the proceeds will go to a local, non-profit organization who will be operating the station.

Are the events timed?

No. This mud race is classified as a “challenge course” designed for individuals, teams, and families who want to participate in a fun run.   Hence, participants will not be timed.

Can I wear a Costume?

Absolutely! We encourage you to get as creative as you want. Just make sure the costume does not impair your vision, prevent you from breathing normally, or can potentially make you trip or get snagged on an obstacle. Nudity of any kind is prohibited.

How much does it cost for parking?

Parking is free. All EXTREME SPRING FLING events will be sharing parking. There will be an All-Day 5K Ultra marathon and the Chino Grinder, a long distance bicycle race that will be held at the same time and location the day of the mud run. There should be adequate parking available, but is recommended you arrive as early as possible to minimize the walk time to the starting line. Pleas carpool to help save fuel, and space in our parking lots.

What is included with registration?

With your paid registration, you will receive the following:

Official Chino Mudder tee-shirt, official water bottle with Chino Mudder logo, colored wrist band for your assigned Wave, assortment of free items provided by Arizona Public Service, a free mud bath, and memories that will last a lifetime.
