2016 Bakersfield Triathlon - CANCELLED:

The Bakersfield Triathlon is one of the longest running events in the sport. Established in 1981, the Bakersfield Triathlon has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging triathlons in the U.S. The longer course has changed some over time but the addition of 2 laps on the bike up the Bluffs and a run loop that includes the famous Bastard Hill are enough to test the most seasoned veteran. The Sprint Course allows both the beginner and the fast & furious to have a good time without the steep hills. Relay teams are welcome in both events and a Kids Tri is available for the young ones.

Course Information:

Olympic Course:
Start Time: First Wave - Men - 8:00 a.m. Second Wave - Women and Teams - 8:05 a.m.

1.5k Swim: Triangular course starting on the southwest edge of Lake Ming.

40k Bike: Ride west out of the transition area on River Road. Turn onto new bike path riding west toward C.A.L.M. Turn onto Alfred Harrell Hwy heading west and through Hart Park. Ride for 15k ending with the climb up to Panorama Rd. and the water bottle exchange. Head east on Panorama turning north at Mt. Vernon and descend onto Alfred Harrell Hwy. Take the Goodmanville off-ramp (20k) and make the turn around to repeat the loop back up to Panorama and back (30k). Finish last 10k back to transition at Lake Ming.

10k Run: Go west out of transition following the trail along the Kern River. Continue through and past the campground, to the bike trail. Turn south at the Kern County Soccer Park and follow markings going under Alfred Harrell Hwy and up Rattle Snake to Bastard Hill. A little beyond the crest of Bastard hill will be a turn around that takes runners back down Bastard Hill and back to the tunnel under Alfred Harrell Hwy. Follow the bike trail and Lake Road back to Lake Ming. The final stretch includes a downhill before a flat 50 meters to the finish line.

Sprint Course:
Start Time: First Wave - Men - 8:30 a.m.
Second Wave - Women and Teams - 8:35 a.m.

1/2 mi. Swim: Triangular course starting on the south edge of Lake Ming.

20K Bike: Ride west out of the transition area on River Road. Turn left onto the new bike path
riding west toward C.A.L.M. Turn right onto Alfred Harrell Hwy riding west through Hart Park
for 10K toward the turn around. Take the Goodmanville off-ramp to make the turn around and then ride back onto Alfred Harrell Hwy for the 10K back to the transition at Lake Ming.

5K Run: Go west out of transition following the trail along the Kern River. Continue past the
campground and onto dirt trail. Turn south onto the bike trail just east of the Kern County Soccer Park and return to the lake along River Rd. The final stretch includes a downhill before a flat 50 meters to the finish line.

This is a great course for the new triathlete as well as the super-speedy racer.

Sprint Course Start Time: 8:30 a.m. for men and 8:35 for women.

Relay Teams:
Enter as a team of 2 or 3 persons for the Olympic Course or the Sprint Course events. Teams
will start with the second wave of individual competitors. A separate portion of the transition
area will be assigned for team members. The bike must remain racked until the exchange of the timing chip from the swimmer to the cyclist is completed. The bike must be racked at the end of the ride to exchange the timing chip to the runner. Drafting is not allowed on the bike between any competitors.

Each member of the relay team must have a USAT license to race. The online registration process will allow you to purchase a one-day USAT license for each team member. Choose one person to be the team leader and that person will then enter all information for the team and complete the credit card transaction for the cost of the event and USAT licenses. Modifications in team membership can be made online through September 1st.

Olympic Course Relay Start Time: 8:05 a.m.
Sprint Course Relay Start Time:8:35 a.m.

Looking for Relay Team Members? Is your team almost complete? Are you a competitor or two short of a dream team? For example, do you have a runner and cyclist but no swimmer? Contact us and we will post requests. Hopefully we can help you get hooked up with that ringer you need to make the podium!
