Event History
The TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon began in 1983, started by Fleet Feet Sports founder Sally Edwards. TBF Racing took over the event in 2001 and have enjoyed working with the SMUD Staff at Rancho Seco Park to bring you this classic Series of Triathlons each summer.
2016 Race Features
Back in 2016 is a Super Sprint distance Triathlon. This easy-to-have-fun race will consist of a 200 yard swim followed by a 4 mile bike and 1 mile run. The Super Sprint Triathlon will start at 8 am.
The race is at beautiful Rancho Seco Park featuring a lake swim, a road bike course, and a dirt trail run. The TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon is a popular event for experienced triathletes and first-timers, and the DU for FUN Duathlon offers non-swimmers a great multisport event with a run-bike-run course.
Included for each athlete is custom TRI for FUN tech-tee race shirt, a swim cap, an athlete goody bag, hot post race meal and raffle prizes.

Relay Teams
Relay Teams are three person for the TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon and two person for the DU for FUN Duathlon. Entry fee includes race shirts, goody bags and post race meals. Awards will be first through third in Male, Female and Coed divisions for the TRI for FUN Triathlon and for first place in the DU for FUN Duathlon.
Packet Pick Up Information
Race packets will be available race morning from 6:30 am to 8:30 am at the race site. There is a $10 park entrance fee per vehicle.
Refund and Transfer Information
TBF Racing has a No Refund policy on all of our events. A Refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Race transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Participant transfers are allowed for this event with a $15 fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held Rain or Shine.
Race for FREE Information
Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing Volunteer Director [email protected] as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.
Start Times
8:00 am - Entry into Rancho Seco Park closed from 8 am to 8:30 am due to Super Sprint event bike course closure. Vehicles can park and walk in approximately one mile or wait until the road opens at 8: 20-8:30 am.

Start of the TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon & DU for FUN Duathlon: 8:30 am
Swim - The race starts from the beach in with a .5 mile swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Rancho Seco Lake marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be approximately 70 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.
Bike - The bike course is 16-miles. You will exit the transition area and then mount your bike. From there you will exit the park and make a right hand turn on Hwy 104, making a U-turn at the turn around point and returning to the park. Please be careful while on the road. Riders must stay to the right at all times! Riders must not draft other riders: You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Proceed to the turn around on Hwy 104 and return to the park. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.
Run - The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 3 mile out-and-back course on fire roads and trails within the park. There will be two aid stations with water and electrolyte beverage, plus energy gels on the run course. One at the start of the run, and one at the turn-around point on the run course. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.
