Event History
The USAT Sanctioned Tri for Real Olympic-distance Triathlon was added to our TRI for FUN Sprint Triathlon Series in 2003. In 2007 we added the TRI for KIDS races for athletes aged 4 to 14 years old on the same day as the Tri for Real events.
2016 Race Features
The TRI for REAL Series is USAT Sanctioned for 2016, and back this year are USAT Aqua Bike events at each Tri for Real Triathlon. New this year is an option for a 1.2 or 2.4 Mile IRON Swim, with swim cap and lunch included! These races are held at Rancho Seco Park in Herald, California. The course has a 1.5 k swim - 40 k bike - 10 k run. The Series dates for the three races are: May 22, June 26 and July 24, 2016. Series Awards, including a Free entry into the 2017 Tri for Real Series, will be presented to the top male and female racing all three events in each age group. Included for each athlete is custom tech-tee race shirt, a swim cap, athlete goody bag, hot post race meal, and free athlete massage.
Series Special
Sign up for all three Tri for Real Triathlons for $200 until the end of November. Series price increases to $240 on December 1st, 2014. Series Finisher Medals will be given at the July 24th event to athletes racing in all three Tri for Real Triathlons.
The Tri for Real Triathlon and Aqua Bike will be USAT Sanctioned, requiring the purchase of a $12 one-day license with USAT, or the holding of an annual membership card with USAT.

Relay Teams
Relay Teams consist of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner. Entry fee includes three race shirts, goody bags and post race meals. Awards will be top three overall in Male, Female and Coed divisions for the Tri for Real Triathlon.
Packet Pick Up Information
Race packets will be available race morning from 6:30 am to 8 am at the race site. There is a $10 park entrance fee per vehicle.
Refund and Transfer Information
TBF Racing has a No Refund policy on all of our events. A Refund requested prior to race week will be given a TBF Race credit for the amount of the entry fee minus a $25 processing fee. Credits are not given during race week. Race transfers are allowed from one TBF Racing event to another within a one-year time frame. There is a $25 transfer fee. Participant transfers are allowed for this event, with a $15 fee. Transfers are not allowed during race week. ALL TBF Racing events are held Rain or Shine.

Our Race for FREE Athlete Volunteer Program offers a chance to get involved with multi-sport events, have fun, and earn a $40 TBF Racing Volunteer voucher good towards entry fees at any of our events this year. Each volunteer shift is 4 hours. We ask volunteers to reserve a volunteer position at any of our events by emailing Volunteer Director [email protected] as our volunteer positions will fill up quickly.

Entry into Rancho Seco Park is closed from 7:30 am to 8 am due to TRI for KIDS Triathlon bike course closure. Vehicles can park and walk in approximately one mile or wait until the road opens at 8 am.
Swim – The race starts from the beach in with a 1.5 kilometer or .93 mile swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Rancho Seco Lake marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be between 68 and 74 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.
Bike – The 40 k mile bike course is an out and back course. The first 2.5 miles are inside the park. The course will turn right onto Twin Cities Road (State Highway 104). The turn-around point is just before the City of Ione at the 12.4 mile mark (at Five Mile Road). Please be careful while on the road. Riders must stay to the right at all times! Riders must not draft other riders: You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Proceed to the turn around on Hwy 104 and return to the park. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.
Run – The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 10-kilometer or 6.2 mile out-and-back course on fire roads and trails within the park. There will be aid stations with cold water, FLUID electrolyte beverage and Clif Shot energy gels on the run course at run start, mile 1, 2, 3.5, and 5.2. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.
