The 9th annual Rodney T. Miller Lakeside Triathlon is dedicated to the memory of Illinois State Trooper Rodney Miller who lost his life in the line of duty, honoring his passion for triathlon, youth athletics, people and life. The TRM Lakeside Triathlon has become an annual gathering of friends, old and new, in support of the Rodney T. Miller Foundation, supporting youth athletics in the Central Illinois area. Funds raised by the triathlon have been awarded to youth programs and schools to provide equipment and upgrade fields and facilities, and have provided life-saving swimming skills to an entire Junior High School whose student body was 95% non-swimming. We appreciate the support of our triathletes and sponsors in this worthwhile endeavor.

Course Information:

Intermediate Course:
the swim is a wave-start .75 mile open water swim in Lake Decatur. Water temperature is typically mid- to upper-70's for the race, posted daily on the event website during race week. Swim start is in the water, approximately waist deep, exit between two boat docks with volunteers on hand to assist water exit. The course is a U-shaped point-to-point well defined by buoys and anchored watercraft. The bike begins at the mount line to the left of the TA exit and is a 19-mile out-and-back on closed roads through rolling hills and turns within the city limits out to the turn-around at Greenway Road on IL 105, then back along the same route. Safety and support are evident with police and volunteers along the entire course, first aid and water stations are scattered along the way. The bike dismount is on a long downhill with volunteers stationed to alert riders to the dismount location. The Intermediate Course run leaves the TA to the athlete's right, following the lake front to a turn-around at the Yacht Club, back past the TA and Spectator Village and follows the lake front while leaving the park running under US 36 out to a second turn-around. Then its back to the finish in front of Spectator Village. Safety support and water stations are located just outside TA, at the first turn-around, just beyond the underpass at US 36 and at the second turn-around.

Short Course: The swim starts in waist-deep water and follows a buoy-line rope (to the swimmer's right) past the ends of the boat docks in Nelson Park Marina to the swim exit at the boat slips, assisted by volunteers at the exit. The bike is a 19-mile out-and-back following the same route as the Intermediate Course. Turn left coming out of the TA to the mount line and you're on your way! The 3.1 mile run also begins by turning left out of the TA, follows the lake front and under US 36 to the turn-around, then back to the finish line in front of Spectator Village. Finish strong!
