Cherry Blossom 5k : |
Running : Run 3.1 Miles |
A beautiful 5k run/walk under the cherry blossoms at the Oregon Capitol Mall. The course starts at the Capitol Mall, weaves through Wilson Park near the WWII Memorial and the statuary, always coming back for a lap under the blossoms on the mall. Run to the beat of the Japanese taiko drummers for the mall area of the course. It is spring, and it's time to get pumped up!
Kids Race: There will be a 1/2 mile race for kids aged 6 and under. This race is free. To enter, Parents just need to sign the waiver at the registration desk. Kids who want to run the 5k course need to sign up normally on this website.
What's this about a sake festival? This run is in conjunction with the Cherry Blossom Festival to celebrate spring. There will be a Japanese element, as cherry blossom picnics, called "hanami," are a popular tradition this time of year in Japan. All race entries include a drink ticket for either Japanese sake, beer, hard cider, or spirits. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. This is the perfect time to get your picnic together and enjoy the only State Park in central Salem. The cherry trees will be lit up, so you can even picnic at night!
Here is the fine print: No refunds or transfers. Sign up early for best prices. Strollers are welcome but please leave dogs at home. $15 per person in advance. $20 from 3/23.
