Come be a part of the Hopkins Royal Triathlon on Saturday Sept. 5th, 2014, held at beautiful Shady Oak Beach, on the edge of Hopkins/Minnetonka. Compete in a traditional sprint distance (aka: "RUBIES"), or for those newer to the sport or have physical limitations, try our shorter "mini-sprint" distance (aka: "NEWBIES"). Either way, you'll be treated like royalty!
This race sold out in 2014, so don't wait too long. Free custom wick away head band to the first 250 registered. Note: Those under the age of 15 should seek prior approval from Race Director before registering.
"RUBIES" sprint distance (for polished gems)
.5 mile swim (clean sandy beach, clear deep water with no boats/jetskis)
13 mile bike ride (double 6.5 mile loop, with a couple of hills)
5K run (flat and mostly on a trail)
Clydesdales and Athenas: Traditionally based on body weight, we offer ours based on body composition. Don't be shy! It's self-registered, so the decision is yours. Clydesdales and Athenas get a prime spot in the transition area, start off our race. So, if you're "all about that bass", consider Clydesdale or Athena.
Elites: Sorry, but no special treatment. In this event, you're common folk, like the rest of us.
Teams/Relay: Sorry, but this course was designed for one athlete to be able to complete all 3 portions. Try the "NEWBIES" distance.
"NEWBIES" mini-sprint distance (for diamonds in the rough)
100 yard swim (either you can swim or you can't)
4.5 mile bike (shorter and flatter this year, just one hill to climb)
1.5 mile run (bad knees?? You can crawl this if need be)
NOTE: The NEWBIES division is a non-competitive portion designed to welcome any, and all people into the sport of triathlon, including those with a "fear of the water", those with "bad knees", those that don't want to spend more money on a bike than they did on their first car and/or those that simply don't want to wear a way too revealing wetsuit. Both divisions will be timed, using "chips", but those in the NEWBIES division will be eligible for "door prizes" (plus a finisher medal and t-shirt). A little advice, don't enter the NEWBIES division trying to impress anyone on a really short course. Do it because you want to "TRI"!
