http://www.hamptoninnpembrokepines.com/This triathlon features a ¼-mile swim, followed by an 11-mile bike with no road crossings and an entire lane closed to traffic, and then finishes with a 3.1 mile closed course run inside beautiful CB Smith Park.
The swim is a 1/4-mile swim in CB Smith’s lake. It is a great race for first timers as the water is flat with no current or waves, so it makes for an easy swim.
The bike course starts by turning left at the end of the road to/from the transition area. It then makes a counter-clockwise loop around the inside of CB Smith Park. It then exits CB Smith Park and goes south on Flamingo. Riders will turn right and head west on Pines to the first right turn and continue staying on the right as they circle around the outside of the park. We turn right at all intersections and all roads have 2 or more lanes, so the course is extremely safe even though it goes outside of the park. After circling the outside of the park in a clockwise fashion, riders re-enter the park and do it all 1 more time. The bike course is 5.5 miles and we will do 2 laps consisting of an inside loop, then an outside loop, then an inside loop, then another outside loop.
The run course goes along the path surrounding the lake in a clockwise fashion. Triathletes will complete 2 laps here as well to make 3.1 miles. The Duathlon will start with 1 run lap and finish with 1 run lap.
The transition area is located on the north side of the lake. You will go straight once you pass through the toll gate and park in the parking lot directly in front of you. We were not allowed to park there in 2011, but it has been cleared for us to park in this lot now. Once parked, follow the path counter clockwise around the lake, walk over the wooden bridge, and the transition area will be straight ahead.
During the competition you will enter the transition area after the swim on the east end of transition under the arch labeled RUN. You will get your bike and exit transition on the west end through the arch labeled BIKE. Once you have completed the bike course you will re-enter transition through the BIKE arch again, change into your running shoes and exit through the RUN arch, continuing straight over the bridge onto the run course.
