Triathlon : Swim 1.5 Miles, Run 2.25 Miles, Bike 12 Miles, Run 14 Miles |
Prepare yourself for the 31st Annual Escape from the Rock. This year we will be returning to the original ESCAPE course that we used from 1981 to 1989. This event was originally conceived as combining the existing swim from Alcatraz and the infamous Double Dipsea with a bike ride thrown in to connect the two. Imagine being able to swim from Alcatraz, bike across the Golden Gate, and run the Double Dipsea. Thats what we are returning to. You have heard the stories, youve seen the movies, you know the infamous inmates, but NOW its your turn to make history on the ORIGINAL ESCAPE course! As the tourists ferry to the island, youll be swimming away as you make the ULTIMATE ESCAPE! The event is limited to 400 participants, so dont wait to register!
Swim: Alcatraz Island to Aquatic Park1.5 miles. The ferry will take you to Alcatraz Island where you will all jump into the waters surrounding the island. When everyone is ready, there will be a mass start for the famous swim from Alcatraz to San Franciscos Aquatic Park. This is the same swim we have done since the inception of the event in 1981No other triathlon features a swim that starts AT Alcatraz!!!
Run 1: Transition 1 from the swim will be in the bleachers at Aquatic Park, where you will change into your running gear for the 1st short run (2 14 miles) through Ft. Mason and along the Marina Green and into the Presidio/Crissy Field to finish at the Sports Basement.
Bike: Transition 2 is at the Sports Basement, where you will change into your biking gear for the 12 mile bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge through East Ft. Baker, Sausalito and Mill Valley to finish at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley.
Final Run: Transition 3 is in Old Mill Park. Here you will leave your bike and change into your final running gear. Now you face the challenge of the infamous Double Dipsea (14 miles). The Dipsea Trail run is the second oldest running event in North America (Boston Marathon is the oldest) and goes from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach. This challenging trail run (you get to do the Dipsea Trail both waysto Stinson Beach and back!!) will take you up and over the shoulder of Mt. Tamalpais to Stinson Beach and back as you traverse the trails of Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais State Park and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This run is not for the weak of heart and will reward you with spectacular vistas of the treasured lands of Marin County and views of the Pacific Ocean.
