THE SWIM:

Estimated Water Temperature & USA Triathlon Wetsuit Rules:

The average water temperature in this area of the Cumberland River on this day is 81 °F. There will be updates the week of the race on current water temperature. Wetsuits may be worn and considered legal by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 °F. When the water temperature is greater than 78 °F, but less than 84°F, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 °F.

Swim Start Information:

This will be a time trial start swim by assigned race numbers. This start is the most practical and safest start for the area we have to use at the Metro Parks West Bank Dock.

Race numbers are assigned by estimated swim time, with the fastest swim time being number 1. A racer will enter the water approximately every 3 seconds, with relay teams starting before individuals. The sprint race starts at 7:30 AM. The first intermediate distance swimmer will enter the water approximately 5 minutes after the final sprint racer starts, with relay teams starting before individuals.

Other Info:

The Nashville Dolphins began in 2003 with less than a handful of swimmers who wanted to improve their swimming skills.

Today the Dolphin programs serve over 100 participants year-round.
Our swimmers range from beginners, just learning to blow bubbles and kick their feet, to swim team members who practice several times a week and compete in Special Olympics. Swimming is a healthy activity for all ages, so the Dolphins do not have an age out policy. There is no cost to participants in any of our programs.
