2 - 4 Years Old
This age group will be completing a 25 yard swim (one side of the pool to the other), a 1/2 mile bike ride and a quarter-mile run. Training and participation for these ages are meant to be fun and void of competition, so specialized training isn't required. Every child in this age group must be accompanied by a parent from the beginning of the swim to the crossing of the finish line on the run. All participants will receive a finish medal for completing this event. This age group is for fun only and will not recognize the top five finishers.
IN ALL AGE GROUPS ARM SWIMMIES, LIFE JACKETS OR FLOAT SUITS ARE ENCOURAGED AND RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE WHO ARE STILL LEARNING HOW TO SWIM.
PARENT PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS AGE GROUP AND ALLOWED IN OTHER AGE GROUPS IF YOUR CHILD WOULD BE MORE COMFORTABLE HAVING YOU THERE.
5 to 7 Years Old
This age group will be completing a 25 yard swim, 1/2 mile bike ride and quarter-mile run. By this age, your children have naturally developed their coordination so spending a little extra time in the pool, on their bikes and running around the park is sufficient training for their age-group race. The focus for this age is having fun and being active. The top 5 boys and girls will be recognized in this age group.
8 to 10 Years Old
This age group is generally more competitive in spirit but their bodies still lack the endurance needed to participate in three sports in a row. This age group will be completing a 50 yard swim (from one side of the pool to the other then return), 1 mile bike ride and a half mile run, which challenges the kids to push themselves a bit harder. The initiation into sport-specific training leading up to the triathlon needs to be kept low to improve overall endurance but still limiting the total training time to 30 to 45 minutes a day, three or four times a week. The top 5 boys and girls will be recognized in this age group.
11 to 14 Years Old
Course lengths increase for this upper age group. This age group will be completing 100 yard swim, with a 6 mile bike ride and a 1 mile run. These are the years participants are molded into athletes, as the intensity and frequency of their training increases. Training for 30 to 60 minutes a day for four to five days a week in the three sports will allow this age group to be well-prepared for race day. The top 5 boys and girls will be recognized in this age group.
15 to 17 Years Old
This age group will be completing 200 yard swim, with a 13 mile bike ride and a 2 mile run. Specialization is the key for this age group. Their bodies are developed enough to withstand the rigorous training specific to their sport. Thirty to 60 minutes a day for four to five days a week is still sufficient training time, but these sessions will incorporate sprint drills, long training sessions and intervals. These sessions will help athletes in this age bracket improve speed, endurance and performance. The top 5 boys and girls will be recognized in this age group.
