The Frederick Steeplechaser Running Club presents
the 25th Annual Frederick Steeplechaser Womens Distance Festival. This event, one of ten in the Maryland
Womens Distance Festival, is part of a national series to promote health and
fitness in women of all ages and abilities.
The Womens Distance Festival is sponsored by the Road Runners Club of
America (RRCA), and was started in 1979 in response to a lack of womens
distance running events in the Olympic Games.
Today, it serves as celebration of the
determination and dedication of women runners across the country.
The 2014 Frederick
Steeplechaser Womens Distance Festival will again benefit the Womens
Giving Circle of Frederick County.
The Womens Giving Circle funds local projects by local nonprofits focusing
on self-sufficiency for women and their children in the Frederick area. Since its founding in 2006, the Womens
Giving Circle has awarded $670,000 in grants to more than 30 Frederick County
organizations that aid women in need. In
the last several years, the Frederick Womens Distance Festival has donated
close to $40,000 to the Womens Giving Circle of Frederick County.
