Description:

2014 Kid's Legacy Triathlon:

Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and kids triathlons are a vital part of this trend. There is no better way for any child to experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle focused on daily exercise and good nutrition.

Every triathlon consists of 4 components swimming, biking, running and transitions. At the Kids Legacy Tri, kids will only race against other kids in their same age group. We will utilize a time trial start in The Club at Spindletop, 8-lane pool meaning each racer will enter the pool one at a time. As they complete their swim, they will get out of the pool, and jog down to the transition area to begin the bike portion of the race. After completing their ride on the Legacy Trail (an out and back), they will reenter transition, drop-off their bike and exit onto the run course. The run is the final portion of the race. Computerized timing chips are used to track each participant throughout each part of the race. Below are the actual race distances for each of the age groups.

6-8 years: 50-meter swim, 1 mile bike, 500 yards run
9-10 years: 100 meter swim, 2-mile bike, half mile run
11-12 years:150-meter swim, 4 mile bike, 1 mile run
13-14 years: 200-meter swim, 5-mile bike, and 1.5 mile run

Course Information:

The swim is in the 8-lane, 25-meter pool at The Club at Spindletop. Lifeguards will be poolside. On exit of the water there will be a short run on concrete down to the transition "IN", and shoes are permitted for this run. Each age group will have a colored swim cap for quick identification. Goggles are permitted, but no other swim aides are allowed. Swimmers can use any style stroke in the pool. They are allowed to hang on to the side or lane ropes to rest, but cant move forward.

The bike course is an out and back on a rolling, paved course. It starts on The Club at Spindletop property, goes thru a gate, and onto a spur that connects with the Legacy Trail. There will be four turn around points (one for each age-group) marked with signs and volunteers. The Legacy Trail is not closed to the public on race day so athletes must watch for other riders.

In transition athletes will put on shoes, helmets, and any other biking gear needed. Athletes will walk their bikes to Transition "OUT" and mount bikes when on the road. Upon completion of the bike leg, athletes must dismount bikes on the road and walk bikes to transition "IN" where they will then prepare for the Run portion of the triathlon. They cant remove their bike helmets until their bike is in its stand.

The Run Course is an out and back run on private, dirt and asphalt roads on Spindletop property for all age groups.

After athletes have walked their bike into the transition area, and are ready to begin the run, they will exit at transition "OUT," and begin the last leg of the triathlon. At the end of the run the athletes will come down the finish line chute to the roars of the crowd, great music, and each will receive a race medal.
