Challenge Vichy has earned itself the reputation among athletes as one of the best long distance races in Europe, with its world-class infrastructure and fast course.
The local spa waters have been attracting visitors since the Roman times and the stylish 19th century architecture and tree-lined boulevards makes Vichy one of the most elegant cities in France.
Aside from the geography, one of Challenge Vichys strengths is the entire event, including both transitions, start and finish line, social functions, briefings and even accommodation, is based at the Sport Center Pierre Coulon on the shores of Lac dAllier.
Course Information:
The lake was formed by damming the River Allier which flows through Vichy and as a result has great access for spectators watching the swim. After a start complete with lights a la Formula 1, the one lap course goes between two bridges allowing friends and family to walk the entire course in support.
The two-lap bike course heads out on smooth fast roads before climbing to the beautiful Randan forest with its welcome shade. Those with time for sightseeing will also enjoy mile upon mile of sunflower fields against the backdrop of the famous Auvergne volcanoes before a fast, slight downhill takes athletes back to Vichy and the start of the second lap.
The marathon is a four-lap course around the banks of Lac dAllier and through parks designed hundreds of years ago by Napoleon III. In addition, each lap takes you past the grandstand of spectators whose enthusiastic cheers will help put an extra spring in your step. The run finishes by crossing the Pont de lEurope with its magnificent view of the finish line area and the city of Vichy before youre enveloped in a finish line party atmosphere that only Europeans passion for sport can create.
