Welcome to the Center Beginner Triathlon Train to Complete Your First Triathlon group page! Join us to follow a training regimen designed to prepare you to complete your very first sprint length triathlon this June. A triathlon is an endurance event in which a person first swims a specified length, then rides a bike for a set distance, then ends the event by completing a run. Triathlons come in all shapes and sizes. The shortest ones are called sprinttriathlons. A sprint triathlon usually has a 500 meter swim, a 13 mile bike ride and a 3.2 mile run. A beginner could complete this event easily in less than two and a half hours. Next there is the Olympic Distance triathlon. This event usually has a 1,000 meter swim, a 25 mile bike ride and a 6.2 mile run. This could take a beginner roughly 4 hours to finish.
Finally there are Iron and Half Iron triathlons. An Iron Triathlon stacks a 2.4 mile swim with a 112 mile bike ride and finishes off with a full length marathon (26.2 mile run). You can probably guess what a Half Iron is.
The purpose of this program will be to get you prepared to complete a sprint triathlon in June of 2014. Why do this? It is our belief that when we set goals, even goals that appear at first glance to be physically impossible, and we achieve them, we grow personally and professionally in immeasurable ways. In addition, training for a triathlon causes you to get in the best shape imaginable. Since you will be focusing on 3 events, youll get a full body workout each week and you wont get into a training rut. So follow the links on this page to guide your training and growth toward the achievement of your triathlon goal! If you have any questions please contact George Welsh at [email protected]
The Center Beginner Triathlon course, as it is geared for beginners, is ALL FLAT! The swim takes place at the Sand Dunes Recreation Pool, which is usually heated to around 95 degrees. The bike ride is an out and back 12 mile loop on flat, paved roads. The run is a 5K out and back flat course on paved and dirt roads. Aid stations are available at the mid way point on each course.
