2010 Black Butte Triathlon:

  • The Black Butte Lake Triathlon Series is one of the best weekends for outdoor enthusiasts on all of the West Coast.
  • Situated right in the heart of Tehama County, Black Butte Lake is one of the most scenic lakes scattered around the Northern California. Hosted annually on the second weekend of April (the weekend after the Easter Holiday) it provides a great race for long time tri-geeks or for first-time newbies to test their legs for the upcoming triathlon season.
  • The weekend is split into two separate races: a Sprint Distance on Saturday and an Olympic Distance on Sunday. But the fun does not stop there! There will be a Health and Fitness Expo to see the latest and greatest gadgets as well as local vendors from the surrounding area showcasing their all-natural goods.
  • Tehama County boasts a wide array of produce from fruit to nuts, olives and olive oil to an up and coming wine country.
  • Course Information:

    Swim: 1.5 km (.9 mile)
  • The glassy waters of Black Butte Lake provide the backdrop for the swim course, which will start at the main dock area, where swimmers will head out to the first swim buoy continuing clockwise, keeping the highly visible buoys to their right.
  • Ending at the dock there, will be a quick jog to T1.
  • Lifeguards will provide water safety along the swim course.

    Bike: 40 km (24.8 mile)
  • Following the transition onto the bike, racers will follow a mellow path out of the campgrounds and through a quick bunch of rollers on their way north towards Corning.
  • Take in the beautiful scenery as you whip through the quick out and back bike course.

    Run: 10km (6.2 miles)
  • All of this madness wraps up on a looped trail run that takes you through the rolling green hills to keep the blood pumping!
  • After running through the sprawling green fields with a couple of moderate hills around miles 2 and 3 you will be descend for a flat, fast lakeside finish.
