This is an authentic Trail Run, rated the #4 10k in America by
SeriousRunning.com and a Top Ten 10k in the nation by Active.com. If
you are looking for a leisurely trail run like you would get on the NCR
trail or other smooth and flat railroad trail, this is not for you!
This highly acclaimed course will begin on paved roads and groomed
trails in the lush valley and then proceed to the top of the hill
overlooking the scenic Western Town below. It will then proceed
primarily through wooded trails (with some moderate to steep
up and down grades), to the Rocky Ridge trail scramble, a unique
outcropping of rocks, where runners can choose several options that end
in the same place (faster more techincal runners should choose the right
option(as opposed to the left). The trail then winds through both woods
and open trail to the Cigar Tree Field where you will get a great view
of all the other runners. Not long after this you will be challenged by
River Valley Ranch's infamous "Dead Man's Hill" (its relatively short
but a doozy!) gradually descending to the Gunpowder River where racers
will have the option to cross through the river (for the REAL trail
runners of course) or
dry across a single lane tree bridge. After the river crossing runners
will enjoy a flat series of heavily wooded single track trail that
follows the gunpowder river...a welcome cooler section of terrain after
the challenging section between mile 1 and 4. The trail will finish
right through the starting line, up Grave Run Rd, and back down through
our Old West town, across the covered bridge to the finish.
Congratulations...you have now completed one of America's Premier 10k
