It is with a heavy heart that I have to let you know: we will not be able to have a Captain Thurmond's New River Gorge Challenge this year.
Due to some complications in my personal life, I'm not able to direct the event this year. I have spent the past few months debating this, trying to find a way for someone else to run the event for 2013. But I've had to come to the hard conclusion that this race we love so dearly is too logistically complicated to just hand off to someone. I need to take a year off to regroup, so I can refocus for 2014 and continue to keep this race alive.
I sincerely apologize to each of you for having to make this decision. I didn't reach it lightly; I've struggled with it a lot, and I'm sorry for not making the call sooner. I had really hoped someone would be able to pull it off, but it just isn't feasible. Thanks so much to everyone who puts their time and energy into this race. I hope that you will stay with me next year and help us come back with a bang.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you all again on the starting line in 2014.
