The course was fabulous for a beginner (the waves virtually non existent on the swim and the bike/run mostly flat and scenic). The stretch from the beach to transition was a bit long (especially since the water is so cold your feet are totally numb), but overall a smooth easy course. My main complaint is that the staggering of events meant that the course was really crowded for a short period of time and then virtually empty/unmarked if you were at the slower end of the olympic distance group (as this was my first olympic length tri, I fell into this category). It is hard mentally to stay focused when the running paths are crowded with families walking their dogs that are oblivious to the race (there were no signs) and both volunteers and spectators are few and far between. Had there been more spacing between events & start waves, the course might have stayed more lively for longer.
