Sweetness Fight Against Obesity 5K Run/Walk : |

The Walter Payton Recreation and Wellness Center is proud to host its 7th annual Sweetness "Fight Against Obesity" 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run. The purpose of this event is to increase obesity awareness in Mississippi and to promote physical activity in the community with a concentrated effort on the youth. The event is slated to take place on the main campus of Jackson State University where the 5K Run/Walk and One mile Fun Run will foster increased community morale assembling local residents, businesses, parents and students around a common goal.
Proceeds from the Walter Payton Sweetness "Fight Against Obesity" 5K Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run will go towards the Live Well Fund. This fund awards annual scholarships for youth ages 6yrs-16yrs to participate in the JSU Camp Tiger Tails Summer Program. It also provides membership to qualified candidates who are obese and/or diagnosed with obesity-related illnesses. The Live Well Fund provides access to preventive healthcare and personal health management through fitness, education, and weight management programs at the Walter Payton Center. Sponsoring Live Well memberships and Camp Tiger Tail programs can make a lasting impact on a persons life and aid in the effort to fight obesity in Mississippi.
