Course Information:

Swim:
  • The 400 Meter Swim will begin our Triathlon with a staggered start. Each participant will be given a start time upon registration.
  • Competitors will swim 2 people per lane. Please stay to your assigned side of the lane.

    Bike:
  • The bike portion of the triathlon begins at the YMCA in the First Commonwealthparking lot along Willow Street across from the YMCA facility.
  • The route will take you through downtown Johnstown via Somerset Street, Franklin Street, Washington Street and Walnut Street.
  • You will then bike through Johnstowns historic Cambria Iron Works and on into Minersville and Coopersdale. The route will follow Cooper Avenue to the Cramer Pike (Route 403), which runs along the western side of the 1,000-foot-deep Conemaugh Gap, one of the most spectacular sceneries found in any race.
  • The route from the Cramer Pike will then turn left onto Route 711. Bikers will then turn left onto Haws Pike (Route 56), which follows the eastern side of the Conemaugh Gap. This area along the Cramer Pike, Route 711 and Haws Pike is flat with the exception of a notable incline after 711 on Route 56.
  • This area could be very warm if the sun is shining brightly. It is recommended that you take advantage of the aid station along the route.
  • Route 56 will bring riders into another residential neighborhood. This part of the course features a challenging S shaped curve followed by a sweeping right hand turn onto Strayer Steet in the citys West End.
  • Bikers will then turn left onto Laurel Avenue. Laurel Avenue is a long, fast downhill straight-away that ends with a hard right turn onto Broad Street. Bikers will follow Broad Street until they reach a sharp right curve onto Roosevelt Boulevard.
  • At the Johnstown Point Stadium bikers will then turn left over the Washington Street Bridge. The route continues on Washington Street, past the Flood Museum and the Johnstown Public Safety Building and then turns right onto Franklin Street past Central Park and over the Franklin Street Bridge, turn left after the bridge onto Somerset Street and finish back at the YMCA.

    Run:
  • The 5K Run portion of the triathlon will begin at the transition area in the First Commonwealth parking lot along Willow Street across from the YMCA facility.
  • The route will take you out Willow Street and make a right turn for a short distance along Somerset Street.
  • At the first intersection the course will turn left onto Haynes Street. Runners will continue over the Haynes Street Bridge and make a right at Bedford Street. Shortly after this turn you will see several different roads meeting at one intersection.
  • Runners will stay to the right hand side. As runners pass the old B & O Railroad docks they will bear right onto Baumer Street.
  • At the end of this street is a large building. It will look like the end of the street however, Runners will make a sharp left turn at this building and continue to Horner Street.
  • The run will then make a right onto Horner Street and continue through the neighborhood of Hornerstown. Participants will pass a Chevrolet dealership and several small businesses; pass through two intersections and over the Horner Street Bridge.
  • Runners will turn right at the light following the turning lane onto Valley Pike where they will continue straight to the turn-around point near the end of the Jim Babish car lot.
  • The 5K Run will then return to the YMCA via the same route and finish on Willow Street at the transition area.
