THE SWIM
The 600 yard swim will take place in warm, calm Tampa Bay. Actual swim direction will be determined on race weekend, but one thing is for sure. This course will lend to some fast times for swimmers of all skill levels!
Once you are out of the water, its just a short run back to transition.
THE BIKE
At 10.1 miles the bike course in Ruskin will prove to be one of the fastest of the season. Although it is flat, there are a couple technically challenging U turns, that will require riders to slow almost to a stop before getting up out of the saddle and hammering away. The inbound portion of the course is a straight shot down 19th Avenue NW. Expect riders to really pick-up speed here, before they navigate the final turns inside E.G. Simmons Park. Another bonus? The speed bumps inside the park have been removed, so you dont have to worry about avoiding those potential wheel busters!
THE RUN
The 3.1 mile run features a variety of terrains. After leaving transition, runners will navigate a couple hundred yards of grass before finding the hard-packed sand/gravel path that makes up the first ½ mile of the course. From there, the course transitions to the grassy shoulder that borders E.G. Simmons Drive. Heading out, youll make a left turn into the old airport, where the terrain is a mix of asphalt and sand/gravel pathway. As you head to the turnaround past the Ranger Station, youll hit another water stop. On the way back, its a straight shot along E.G. Simmons Drive. The final 200 yards will be an all out sprint on grass to the finish line, so make sure you save a little extra energy at the end!
