XTERRA Portland 2009:
It starts with: one stroke, one pedal, and one step and every XTERRA athlete finishes with: one last stroke, one last pedal, and one last step. No one is born a triathlete.
Each man and woman who finds themselves conquering XTERRA races began their journey by diving in a pool, hopping on a bike, or stretching their legs on a run.
XTERRA maintains the confidence anyone can do these races--with the drive to accomplish. Whether you are a mom, dad, CEO, teacher, surfer, or a mountain biker, just about anyone with a passion for great sports in the outdoors can conquer XTERRA.
Course Information:
XTERRA Portland is a 1000 meter swim, 25 k mountain bike, and 4.25 mile run in the luscious land of Scoggins Valley Park.
Swim:Two buoy clockwise 1000m swim in warm, calm Hagg Lake.
Bike: The XTERRA Portland bike leg is rolling single and double track.
The relatively flat, but technical course has sharp turns requiring quick and reactive decision-making as well as bursts of speed on short and steep climbs that will force the rider out of the saddle get the legs burning, and several rocky or root filled sections that will challenge the riders agility, control, and balance.
Run: Runners will need to be light on their toes as they twist and turn through a windy up and down run course through some well-groomed and not so well-groomed trails.
Once again the runners agility, balance, and stamina will be tested as the runner hurdles logs, traverses steep ravines, creek crossings, and bush-whacks through the typical lush NW forest underbrush!

Henry Hagg Lake:
Local: (from Hillsboro, OR):Just go west on Highway 8 (the Tualatin Valley Highway) through Hillsboro until you see the Forest Grove junction with Highway 47.
Go left (south) on Highway 47 until you see the Scoggins Valley Park/Henry Hagg Lake signs (5.9 miles).
Turn right at the signs and drive straight to the Park entrance (3.7 miles). Once you arrive, ask the attendant at the gate for information. Welcome!
Metropolitan Area: (from Portland, OR): Take Highway 26 (Sunset Highway) west to the Hillsboro exit at Cornell Road, and follow the road signs to downtown Hillsboro.
Cornell Road will take you past the Hillsboro Airport and Washington County Fairgrounds, and then change into 10th Avenue.
At the intersection of Highway 8 (Tualatin Valley Highway) and 10th Avenue, turn west (right) onto Highway 8 (Tualatin Valley Highway), and go west to the east end of the City of Forest Grove. You will pass through the City of Hillsboro, City of Cornelius, and arrive at the east end of the City of Forest Grove, where Highway 47 meets Highway 8. You will see a major intersection, complete with signage directing you to Henry Hagg Lake.
Take Highway 47 (south) towards the City of Gaston for approximately 5.9 miles, until you arrive at the intersection of Highway 47 and Scoggins Valley Road. There will be a flashing yellow light.
Turn right on Scoggins Valley Road, and head west for approximately 1.5 miles. You will pass the Lakestop Store, Stimsons Lumber Mill, and finally arrive at our Park Fee Booth which sits at the entrance to the Park. Welcome!
