RACE PACKET PICK UP: two options for participant convenience: Friday June 22nd, 2012 from 5pm-8pm at Swim Bike Run of Kentucky, located at 320 N. Ashland Ave, Lexington KY (859) 455-3384, or at the Race Information meeting (highly recommended for beginner triathletes/duathletes) on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Spindleop Hall from 9am to 12pm. Athlete Info meetings will be held at 10am and 11am. Race morning packet pickup is for out of town athletes.
There are two main parking areas. The main parking area for athletes and volunteers is the grass parking lot at the Club at Spindletop Hall. Parking at Spindleop will be open from 5am to 6:30am. To further ensure a safe race for our participants, you will NOT be able to leave this parking lot until our last cyclists is back in the transition area. The latest time for the last cyclists to return is 10am, but we expect to be able to open that parking lot much early than 10am (and will open it as soon as we are able to). But if you park in this lot, there is a small possibility that you will not be able to leave until 10am.
If you have to leave prior to this time or if you arrive AFTER 6:30am, you will need to park at the Berea Rd Soccer complex and walk over to the Club at Spindletop by accessing the Legacy Trail. You can follow the Legacy Trail over to Spindletop. This will be around a 10 minute walk over to Spindletop.
We are also working on a third option for those who would like to park at Fasig Tipton and take a shuttle over to the Club at Spindletop Hall. We are currently working on those details so check back for an update!
Swim: 400 meter Pool swim. Athletes will start in a time trial fashion, with the fastest swimmers giong first. Athletes will go every 20 seconds, and will complete a 400 meter snake swim (going up and back in one lane, then under the lane line to the next lane, etc fo finish the swim). The depth of the pool varies from 4ft. to 6ft.
Bike 13 Miles: This is a rolling hills course through the beautiful hills of horse country. As you cycle through the tree-lined hills of the Bluegrass, you are sure to see many horse farms and experience Lexington at its best. The cycle begins from the transition area, cyclists will bike out of Spindletop on the right side of the drive, turn right on Ironworks Pike, left at Mt. Horeb Pike on take Mt. Horeb Pike all the way to just before the Scott County Line. You will turnaround just before the county line at 6100 Mt. Horeb Pike. You will then take the same route back towards transition area located at the Club at Spindletop Hall. The Ironworks Pike section of the course will be closed to traffic. The entire bike course is in awesome condition! Roads are in great shape!
NOTE: There is a cut off time for the cycle. Athletes who are unable to complete the cycle and in the transition area by 10 am will be pulled off the course for safety reasons.
Run 3.1 Miles (5K): This is an out and back course from the transition area, down Spindletop drive on the left side, left on Ironworks Pike and back. Although a portion is on grass, this is a flat and fast run course! We will have aid stations at mile 1 and mile 2 on the run course.
Note: The cuff-off for the run in 11am. All athletes must be to the finish line by 11am for safety reasons. Apprx. 1 mile of the run course is on low cut grass
