2012 TwinCities Triathlon:

  • The TwinCities Triathlon is the third race in the OptumHealth Performance Triathlon Series.
  • "An instant Classic", this second year race was hailed as one of the most ambitious triathlons of 2011.
  • Racers will once again swim downstream in the Mississippi River, challenge themselves on the famed Ohio Street climb and run through Minnesota's scenic capital city.
  • Don't miss the opportunity to experience this amazing race.
  • Course Information:

Host to numerous grand scale events, Harriet Island offers breathtaking views of downtown St. Paul, the Wabasha Bridge and the Mississippi River. Its pavilion, band shell and large open spaces provide a roomy transition area and great spectator access to make it a perfect venue for an event of this caliber. The Finish Expo features play areas for children, music, free food for athletes, free post-race massage, your individual results printed for you and overall results displayed onsite.

    Swim:
Entering from the banks of the Mississippi River, your downstream 500 yard or 1.2 mile course will be fast, fun and the most unique triathlon swim in Minnesota! The river will be closed to all boat traffic other than our numerous safety patrols. Other great urban triathlons have their swims in rivers such as New York City (Hudson), Philadelphia (Schuykill) and Chattanooga (Tennessee).

    Bike:
These single loop courses offer a little bit of everything: cool climbs, smooth roads, fast flats and great views. The bike course begins by directing athletes up the infamous Ohio Street climb and on to Cherokee Avenue. At this point, the course flattens out, heading south on a single loop route that brings racers to Dodd Road and back on South Robert Street. Wide and smooth shoulders will help racers maintain a fast pace. As you wind back in on Caesar Chavez, you will be greeted with a beautiful view of the St. Paul skyline.

    Run:
Athletes begin their 3.1 or 6.2 mile runs by exiting the transition area to the east and winding their way onto Wabasha Avenue and up and over the Wabasha Bridge which offers spectacular views of downtown St. Paul and the Mississippi. Coming off of the bridge, runners will take a right; going downhill to Shepard Road and then west to their turnaround point. Athletes will return on the same route and finish along the banks of the Mississippi on Harriett Island.
