Donner Lake Triathlon Sprint

Swim:
The Sprint swim course is 1/4 mile in Donner Lake with two left turns. Corners are marked by large buoys and kayakers/boats are along the course to ensure your safety. The average water temperature of Donner Lake in July is 64-69 degrees. Wetsuits are optional. The swim course maps are posted on the Course Maps page.

Bike Course:
The bike course takes place on Donner Pass Road between South Shore Drive and Donner Memorial State Park. The entire course is paved. The bike course is open to vehicle traffic. The Sprint Bike Course is approximately 6 miles and is an out and back. Heads east on Donner Pass Road to a turnaround and back to the main venue.

The Sprint Bike Course is open to vehicle traffic.

Run:
The Sprint run course features a 2 Mile out-and-back run on South Shore Drive. Triathletes leave the transition area on the South side of the parking lot. You will pass two aid stations while on the run: one as you leave the transition area and the other at the turn-a-round point.

Mount/Dismount Area: At the Donner Lake Triathlon, you are not permitted to ride your bike in the transition area. There is a mount and dismount area outside of the bike start/bike finish tents.

Donner Lake Kids Triathlon
The Donner Lake Kids Triathlon is an actual triathlon featuring the swim-bike-run classic format. The focus and emphasis is to provide and opportunity for kids to experience the sport of triathlon. The distance of the course is age appropriate. A finishing medal is provided to all the kids and they are recognized as a group during the awards ceremony.

Parents, please note that you can check in one hour prior to your kids start time.

Start:
See the schedule for the start times. We operate the event so that ALL participants are off, complete, with their bike stage prior to starting the next age group. There is a lead and sweep for each age groups bike stage. This helps with the event operations and safety. Therefore, there maybe some delay for the posted start times.

Swim:
The swim courses are near shore. Younger ages can stand if needed. Corners are marked by large buoys and water safety staff are positioned along the way. The average water temperature of Donner Lake in July is 69 degrees.

Bike:
The bike courses take place on South Shore Drive and are paved. Each distance course has a designated turn-around location. Riders stay on the right side of the road.

Run:
The run courses are on surface streets and are out and back, turnarounds are clearly marked and staffed.

Mount/Dismount Area:

There is a designated spot where riders can mount and then dismount their bikes on the way in and out of the transition area. This is a safety measure to control speed.

11-12 Swim: 200 meters Bike: 3K Run: 2K
9-10 Swim: 100 meters Bike: 3K Run: 1K
7-8 Swim: 50 meters Bike: 2K Run: 1K
6 & Under Swim: 25 meters Bike: 1K Run: 500 Meters
