2023 Hy Noon Kiwanis Storm the Lake Triathlon & Duathlon:

 The 11th annual Hy Noon Kiwanis Storm the Lake triathlon/duathlon is a charity event for Storm Lake Kiwanis Projects for Youth. Join other athletes at beautiful Storm Lake, IA King’s Pointe Waterpark and Resort. Swim in the protected bay, bike around the lake and run along the lake finishing at the flower lined path. All transition areas are at the waterpark. Storm Lake is considered one of the most beautiful venues for a triathlon in Iowa. The entire route is well marked with yellow vested Kiwanis volunteers cheering the athletes and providing assistance all along the way.  The triathlon is .5 mi swim in the bay, 12 mile bike and 5K run.  The duathlon is a 1 mile run, 12 mile bike and 5 K run all along the same race area as the triathlon. This also is a sanctioned event. Come join the fun along beautiful Storm Lake!

Location: King’s Pointe Resort and Waterpark, Storm Lake, IA. Storm Lake is 60 miles east of Sioux City, IA, 135 miles north of Omaha, NE, 140 miles northwest of Des Moines, IA, 140 miles southeast of Sioux Falls, SD on highway 71.

All- Packet pick up is at King’s Pointe Resort 1520 E. Lakeshore Dr. Storm Lake, IA inside on Friday Aug. 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  You must show your ID and if you have a USAT annual membership, show your card.  One day memberships will not have a card.

Swimmers—we suggest you bring/wear water shoes.  The lake has zebra mussels which can be very sharp on your feet.

Covid—Practice all safety precautions for Covid-- vaccine, masks/social distancing when in close contact with others.  Do not come if you are experiencing symptoms or are testing positive.  We will take all safety precautions at the event.  You will be asked to sign a release of liability regarding covid and Hy Noon Kiwanis. 

The transition area will open at 6:45 a.m. Aug 20.  There will be a volunteer with the bikes at all times.  Only athletes will be allowed in the transition area.  If you are staying all night at a motel, we recommend you keep your bike in your room on Friday night.

Starting at 7:00 a.m Saturday--we will hand out packets to those who were unable to register on Friday night.  ID and Annual USAT card required.  We will begin writing numbers on athletes.



Swim ½ mile in the bay at King’s Pointe,

bike 12 miles around the lake to transition area at King’s Point,

run 5K along the lake and back to King’s Pointe

This is a USAT sanctioned event and participants are required to purchase a one day or annual membership to USAT.


Your participation helps a wonderful cause! Proceeds to help the High Noon Kiwanis raise funds for their children's and youth projects.

Packet pick up Fri. from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at King's Pointe Lodge and again at 6:30 a.m. Sat. morning at Awaysis Beach at King's Pointe.

Shirt size/availability is guaranteed if registered by Aug. 7,  shirts will be available after that date, but sizes not guaranteed- they will be distributed at packet pick-up, first come/first serve. All participants will receive a medal.

Course Information:

The swim is at Awaysis beach, swimming out 400m go around the bouys and return 400 m.  The transition area is a short run on artificial turf on the beach to the transition area.  Bike east out of the transition area on blocked off hwy 7, turn right on 120th Ave, then right on C65, then right on hwy 110, turn right on Howard Street and a quick left on Kelvin Rd, then a short left on Emerald Dr and right onto hwy 110.  Continue into town turning right on Grand Ave to Lakeshore Dr to the west side of the transition area.  From the transition area run east on hwy 7 to first intersection, turn right along the lake past the campground to the turnaround point.  Return to finish line near the transition area.

Duathlon start is the east end of the transition area run along hwy 7 to first intersection to the .5 mile mark and return to transition area to get on bike.
