_ The 2023 USAT Massachusetts Triathlon Championships at Hyannis 1:

Join experienced race veterans and triathlon newcomers alike for the 41st year of the Hyannis 1 Triathlon. The Hyannis 1 Triathlon has again been designated, for the fifth season, the USA Triathlon MA State High School Championship (Sprint) and the MA Age Group Championship (Olympic).

There is an Olympic distance race (Age Group Championships) and a Sprint distance race (Age Group and High School Championships). New this year: a Sprint Duathlon and a kids Splash ‘n Dash! All of these races are challenging — but still able to be completed by fitness enthusiasts who have trained for the distances. The atmosphere is special; the views are spectacular; and your satisfaction of accomplishment will last for a long time!

Age groupers:
If you finish in the top 35% of your age group in the Sprint or Olympic distance event, you will quality for the Age Group National Championships in Milwaukee August 4-6th.

High Schoolers:
State championship awards will be given to the top three boys, girls and non-binary athletes in the Sprint race. Additionally, all high schoolers who compete on June 10 are qualified into the Junior & Youth National Championships on August 4-6th in Milwaukee.

Both the Sprint and the Olympic races start and finish at picturesque Craigville Beach. It’s challenging — but still able to be completed by fitness enthusiasts who have trained for the distances. The atmosphere is special; the views are spectacular; and your satisfaction of accomplishment will last for a long time!

Course Information:

SPRINT DISTANCE COURSE DESCRIPTION

Swim: 1/4 mile

A sandy, waist-deep start at Craigville Beach (expect temps in the upper-60s). The course is rectangular in shape (approx 150 yards between the two turns). Wave conditions over the years have ranged from glass-calm to a moderate chop; never “big surf” in the protected waters of Nantucket Sound.

Bike: 10.2 miles

The “rolling hills” course leaves the shores of Craigville to enter into the historic village of Centerville, then winds its way through the villages of Osterville and Wianno before returning along a shoreline road to Craigville Beach. Single loop; and no duplication of any stretch of road!

Run: 3.6 miles

The athletes head off toward Hyannisport, with a quarter-mile flat run evolving into a gradual climb for a quarter mile, then a gentle rolling grade until the last mile which is a gentle downhill grade. A water stop is staffed by enthusiastic volunteers at the midpoint of the 3.6-mile run.

OLYMPIC DISTANCE COURSE DESCRIPTION

Swim: 0.9 mile

A sandy, waist-deep start at Craigville Beach (expect temps in the upper-60s). A single-loop course extending beyond the Sprint course buoys in a rectangular shape.

Bike: approx. 20 miles

The Olympic distance bicycle route will mirror the Sprint course with the exception of an additional loop starting in the village of Centerville and extending into Osterville.

Run: approx. 6.2 miles

The Olympic distance run route will mirror the Sprint course with the exception of an additional loop.
