_ The 2022 Independent Republic Adventure Race:

  Race brought to you by Horry County Parks and Recreation 12 Hour Adventure Race Race Distance: 48-60 Miles (4 to 5 miles per hour average speed) Categories: Solo, Two Person, Three Person and Four Person Teams Description: Teams of 1-4 will travel across land, water and swamp in Horry County covering approximately 50-65 miles. Racers may be required to plot UTM coordinates (orienteering) on their maps to be able to navigate to check points while paddling, cycling and running/trekking through the course. Check points will be placed in various different locations using natural features as indicators of placement such as trail intersections, streams, bays, coves etc. The race will cover everything from single track Mountain Biking trails to dirt or gravel roads, a few paved roads and flat water kayaking. Check-In Date: Friday November  11th 2022 6:30pm-8:00pm (Carolina Forest Recreation Center, 2254 Carolina Forest Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579) Race Start: Saturday: November 12th 2022 7:00am (Maps available at 5:45am) Race Day Start Location: International Drive Baseball Fields, 950 International Dr, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579 Disciplines: Trekking or Trail Running, Mountain Biking and Kayaking Waivers: All participants must sign a Release and Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement Dinner and Awards: Estimated 7:30pm Early Registration Fees: Solo-$90, 2 Person-$180, 3 Person-$270, 4 Person-$360   Race Rules 1. You must render aid to any racer in need of medical attention. Time credits will be awarded to compensate for time lost while assisting. Penalty – Disqualified 2. No dragging the boats. You are financially responsible for any damage if it’s yours or if it’s rented. Penalty – 1 hour-disqualified 3. Bike riding must be done on the designated course.  Off Limits roads/highways will be briefed prior to the race. Penalty – 1 hour-disqualified 4. Your team must remain together at all times. You will not know which points are manned. If you arrive at a manned checkpoint without your team, you will be asked to wait at the checkpoint until the remainder of your team arrives. Penalty– ½ hour-disqualified 5. Use of whistles is to signal if you need assistance only! (For emergencies only). Penalty – warning- ½ hour 6. You must recycle any trash that you produce during the race, absolutely no littering! Penalty– ½ hour-disqualified. 7. Cell phones are FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY! 8. Assisting other teams is authorized on any portion of the race. 9. You must carry all mandatory items as well as items given to you during the race. Penalty – ½ hour each item 10. You must wear PFD while Paddling at all times. Penalty – 1 hour-disqualified 11. You must wear your Bike Helmet while Biking. Penalty – 1 hour-disqualified 12. NO GPS or electronic assistance. Penalty – Disqualification 13. All protests should be brought to the race director’s table. Race director’s decision is final. 14. All elements of the race are MANDATORY, (i.e. Boat Paddle, Bike, Trek) unless specified by Race Director!  Penalty - Loss of gained points – disqualified     Gear This is a self-supported race so all required equipment and food will need to be carried by each racer throughout the day (bikes, boats, and associated equipment will be pre-staged).   Required Hydration pack/water carrying system Mountain bike (per person) Bike helmet (per person) Bike repair kit consisting of spare tube/patch kit, pump and tire tools (per team) Compass (per team) All food/water needed for duration of the race Plotting tool (per team) MapTools.com Sponsor will provide one to each racer...  Check out their UTM Plotting Tutorials. These maps contain topographic lines, manmade features, and trails. The map WILL NOT be pre-plotted for the 12 hour race, racers will need to plot the UTM points the morning of the race. If you are a beginner assistance will be available during check-in and the mandatory meeting the morning of the event. Other maps of the area can be used during the race. No GPS use is allowed.
