The 21st annual XTERRA USA Championship off-road triathlon will be held in conjunction with a new family-friendly and community-focused weekend of events in Avon, Colorado, July 15-16, 2022.  The triathlon will be held on Saturday, July 16.

It’s the first-time XTERRA has hosted its national championship in the Colorado Rockies, following 12 seasons at Snowbasin Resort in Utah (2009-2021) and eight years in Incline Village, Nevada (2001-2008).

There will be $25,000 in prize money awarded equally to the top 10 elite men and women, plus XTERRA USA Championship crowns to age group division winners along with 51 qualifying spots into the 2022 XTERRA World Championship to be held in Trentino, Italy on October 1.

In addition to the main event, XTERRA will host sprint and relay races along with a variety of other endurance events for the whole family including kid’s races, yard games, vendor booths, food trucks, beer gardens, and live music at the marvelous open-air Nottingham Park Pavilion in the heart of Avon.

Course Information:

XTERRA Full Course – 1,500m swim / 24k MTB / 9k trail run

XTERRA Beaver Creek Sprint – 750m swim / 14k MTB / 5k trail run

Swim

A 750m or 1,500m swim in Avon’s Nottingham Lake will kick off the point-to-point race. This is a 1 or 2 lap, rectangular course, and a 10-minute warm-up is allowed before the race begins.  The average water temperature is between 67 and 71 degrees. Athletes will be given a plastic bag with a race number at registration/packet pick-up.  Please use this bag for all belongings used at T1 for transfer by Race Personnel to the finish area in Beaver Creek Village.

After the swim, racers transition to the mountain bike course and get ready to climb for 2,200 feet or 3,600 feet of elevation gain. The off-road uphill climb goes along the trails of Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead, and Beaver Creek.

Runners hit the trails for a 9k or 5k run through aspen glades, along skyways and singletrack, returning to the base of Beaver Creek Village for the post-race party! There is an elevation gain of 700 or 1,300 feet.
