_The 2022 Ellen Reavis Race for Autism:
Ellen was a wonderful Occupational Therapist, teacher, friend, inspiration, and driving force to many in the field of autism. She had a magical way with autistic individuals and their families. Ellen had served the New Mexico Autism Society’s Board of Directors as President, Treasurer, and workhorse for many years. She also helped many children, teachers, and therapists as a member of the APS Autism Resource Team. We lost Ellen to cancer in 2009, but her spirit will remain with all who knew her.
Because of Ellen and her dedication to the autism community, New Mexico Autism Society decided to honor her memory with this race. Each year, the New Mexico autism community gathers at Balloon Fiesta Park to help raise acceptance, to educate, and celebrate our autistic community and their families. The race is our biggest fundraiser of the year and helps fund all the programs and events we host.
This year we are again partnering with Alta Mira Specialized Family Services to bring you KiteFest! Come join us, fly a kite and celebrate because “EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE TO FLY” in our community!
The Ellen Reavis Race for Autism is also a great way to raise your voice and join our force to create acceptance of Autism in your community. We hope to see you there! Create your team today and join us during Autism Acceptance month as we celebrate our community.
We will be having a team t-shirt contest. Create a t-shirt design in honor of your team! You can drop off a t-shirt at the main stage or come to the stage at 12pm to be judged by the best emcee there is Sam Newton of Coyote 102.3. We will have an Easter basket full of goodies for the winner!
5k race is a timed race. Participants will receive a finisher medal. The top 3 males and females will receive a prize for their efforts.
1 mile walk is untimed and is for those that do not want to be timed.
The Star Walk is our time to honor those we are running and walking for! Open to any Autistic individual. Walk a short aisle as the crowd cheers you on just for being you! Each participant gets a t-shirt with their registration. Registration must be completed by April 1st, 2022, to receive their shirt prior to race day. Any registration after April 1st will receive their shirt 2 weeks after race day.
