2012 Buzz Ryan Sprint Triathlon:

  • The Buzz Ryan Sprint Triathlon is a fast and furious event that navigates through the woods and wilderness that Buzz helped to create!

    • Course Information:


  • Enjoy a beautiful half mile swim in Island Lake, 20 minutes North of Duluth.
  • Followed by a 20K out-and back bike ride through the coniferous and deciduous forests of Northern Minnesota.
  • The 5K run takes you on a woodsy trail before finishing back at picturesque Island Lake.

    • Directions:


    From Duluth:
  • Follow Rice Lake Road (County Rd. 4) North approximately 18 miles to the MP&L Picnic Grounds.

    From Biwabik:
  • Follow County Rd. 4 South for approximately 43 miles to the MP&L Picnic Grounds.

  • Buzz Ryan was a 7' tall lumberjack who did a lot of his work in the area around Island Lake.  
  • Think Paul Bunyun without the ox.
