_ The 2021 Cedar Lake Triathlon: RACE REPORT

For starters, Parking was a nightmare. I have a larger than average pick-up, and went into the parking lot, and had to give up. I thought i was there eaarly, but it was already full. I am sure some people who paid just gave up and went home. I went up and down the street a couple of times, and eventhough there were many emty spaces at the YMCA Camp, they would not let me park there.
On my 3rd lap, a cop who had tried to help me earlier, waved me into the parking lot, and angled me into a spot where I only was able to fit.
The race it's self was awsome. Everyone was so happy just to be able to do at least 1 Tri this summer in chester. I met some wonderful triathletes. Most notably Janit, Ed & Tony. I even took a picture of the 3 of them with Tony's camera (Tony, feel free to send that to me, and i will post it right here).
The swim was a simple out & back, I felt good, but a lot of good swimmers must have shown up, because i was 50th out of 73.
The transition area was very sandy, but i got out quick enough onto the bike.
My road biking has been sub par all season, I have especially struggled on the up hills, where it seems everyone and their grandmother pass me on the up hills. But today, i was absulutely mediocre, which for me is good, because i can absulutely crush it on the down hills, and i did. 25th out of 74 on the bike on a course with many rolling hills, and a couple of big ones.
The event finished with a 3.1 mile out and back run along the lake, more down hill on the way is always nice. One thing about having a slow swim, most of the fast bikers and runners are already ahead of you, so i definately passed way more people than usual on the bike and run.
All in all it was a very fun and exciting race i finished 32 out of 71, not bad for a 62 year old.
Can't wait to come back next year, and do 3 or 4 of these if they have them
Course Information:
Open Water Swim:
• The swim will be great for athletes who enjoy a short, out and back open water lake swim.
• You will keep the buoy to your left.
• Roughly 500 yards.
T1 & T2:
• Transitions will be within the fenced in perimeters of the lake.
• Athletes will be able to fit 10 bikes per bike rack.
• Have respect for other athletes when it comes to laying out your transition mats.
RACE UPDATE - Bike Course CHANGE:
• Road Bike Course Map OLD
• Road Bike Course Map NEW FOR 2021 (due to construction)
Run Course:
• The 3.1 mile run along side the lake will approach Cockaponset State Forest before you have to turnaround at the water station.
• The run is fast, flat and smooth.
• Runners will stay on the side of the road closest to the lake for the out AND back. Allowing bikers to stay on the opposite side of the runners.
• 5K Run Course Map
**Bikers and Runners: SLOW DOWN as you approach Route 148 on your way back into transition.
Rules to adhere to, athletes who don't abide by these rules will be disqualified from finishing and even the remaining Series.
• Helmets required on the bicycle.
• Cyclists stay right at all times unless passing and utilize the shoulder of the road.
• Pass other cyclists within 20 seconds.
• No drafting, allow 4 bike lengths from the cyclists ahead of you.
• No iPhones, iPods, or earbuds while racing
• No crossing the yellow lines on the bike or run
• ALWAYS stay on the inside of the cones (to the right of the cones)
• No PASS ZONE after taking a right onto Rt 148 approaching Transition #2
• No animals in the park. It is prohibited by the Town of Chester
