SWIM: 1/3-Mile
The Mayflower Sprint Triathlon at Plymouth Rock swim is a point-to-point course in Plymouth Harbor where the Pilgrims landed in the year 1620. A barrier beach and jetty protect the harbor. This generally results in calm surf. The swim begins with a water start at the foot of the State Boat Ramp. Swimmers swim 1/3-mile from The State Boat Ramp and exit at the dock at the bow of The Mayflower II and run 1/4 mile on indoor/outdoor carpet to the transition area at Memorial State Park just south of Plymouth Rock. You can expect water temperatures in the mid-60's. Wetsuits are recommended. Unlike the Pilgrims there are no rocks to navigate as you exit the water.
BIKE: 11-miles
Athletes will exit transition and bear left on Water St., left on Union St. into Stephens Field, left onto Warren Ave. (RT 3 South), right on Sandwich Road, right on Clifford/Jordan Road, left into Rolling Wood Lane to the turnaround point at the cul-de-sac. You will return back through Rolling Hills, right on Clifford/Jordan Road all the way back to a left on Warren Ave. (RT 3 North), right into Stephens Field, onto Union then a right on Water St. and back to the transition area. On your return through Stephens Field into Union St. please remain focused. Returning cyclists will be directed into a dedicated bike lane to the far right hand side of the road. You will see runners in a dedicated runners lane directly to your left. The bike course (excepting one lane on Union St.) is open to vehicular traffic. Traffic is expected to be light on this holiday weekend. All major intersections and turns will be staffed by police and volunteers.
Helmets are mandatory!
RUN: 3-miles (2 laps of 1.5 miles)
The 2012 Mayflower Sprint Triathlon features an updated one loop run course. Athletes will leave transition, pass Plymouth Rock on their right and continue for another 1/4 mile on Water Street where a button hook turn will reverse your direction on Water Street. You will bear right in Winslow Street, take a quick left on North Street and then a quick right onto Carver Street. This will put you up on Cole's Hill with a scenic view of Plymouth Harbor and the Transition Area/Finish Line below you. A left hand turn on Leyden Street and then a quick right turn leads you into historic and scenic Brewster Gardens. The winding path leads you up to The Jenny Grist Mill where you will take a quick right on Spring Lane, a quick left on Summer street, and a left on Willard Street. A foot bridge will take you over Arms House Pond back to The Jenny Grist Mill where you will retrace your steps back through Brewster Gardens. Left on Water Street, left on Leyden Street, right on Carver, left on North Street, right on Winslow, right on Water Street past Plymouth Rock, right into the Finish Line. The course is very well marked and well staffed by volunteer pointers. Two Aid Stations will serve you at the 3/4 mile mark on the way out and the 2 mile mark on the way back.
