2016 Tupelo King of the Hill Triathlon:- CANCELLED

From The Race Registration Website: "King of the Hill is cancelled for this year. This is due to a number of factors. We have enjoyed doing the race and enjoyed meeting all you athletes. Tombigbee State Park is an excellent race venue and has been great to us. We will be putting on a couple big training weekends soon but no formal triathlon this year. Thank you for your support the past 10+ years."

Course Information:

SWIM: a very flat 1/2 mile counterclockwise loop with a time trial start

BIKE: a very diverse and challenging 20 mile route that includes plenty of hills and some blazing fast sections of smooth highway.

RUN: an out and back run that totals 3.2 miles.

Race Summary:

  • After a beginner friendly time trial start, the racers will make a counterclockwise rectangular pattern 1/2 mile swim.
  • The water temp at this time of year varies depending on the prior week's weather; however, it should be in the low 80's.
  • The swimmers will exit the water and have a short, but steep, climb up a paved path to transition T1.
  • After athletes transition to their bikes, they will exit out of the back of the park and begin a 20 mile loop that is fun and challenging.
  • The first half of the bike course is rolling and fast.
  • The second half is where you start to realize where we got the name "King of the hill."
  • The bike leg will finish into the front entrance of the park and back into transition T2.
  • Athletes will shed their helmets and don their shoes for some good old southern runnin' along a very wooded and shaded road.
  • Water, gels, and electrolyte replacement drinks are plentiful along the run course (at the start, at mile 1, at mile 1.6, at mile 2.2, and then at the finish).
  • In addition to these water stations, we also have a man with a firehose at around mile 1.5 to cool you off, if you want.
  • At the end of the run, althetes will finish through a chute and large inflatable arch. They will be met by not only their friends and family, but friendly volunteers that will put ice cold water and Powerade in their hands and an ICE towel around their necks.
  • This is truly a race for racers. We take pride in going above and beyond with everything we do.

Directions:

Tombigbee State Park is located 6 miles southeast of Tupelo off Mississippi Hwy. 6.
