In 1983 and 1984, at the dawn of the sport of triathlon, the Bass Lake Triathlon hosted the first ever National Championships for the new sport of triathlon. Hosted by the United States Triathlon Series and Tri-Fed (now USAT), the list of participants read like a Who's Who of the fledgling sport. Future world and Ironman champions all raced the challenging waters and roads of Bass Lake.
Bass Lake is situated in the foothills of the Sierras, just hours from San Francisco and Los Angeles and at the gateway to the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. Located at just over 3000 feet of altitude in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Bass Lake is surrounded by pines, crisp, clean air and, for the triathletes, rolling, challenging terrain.
Expect temperatures in the mid 70s, with warm, sunny skies. Water temperature should be in the low 70s, making for a wetsuit legal swim.

Bass Lake, and the surrounding area, is the gateway to Yosemite Park and offers fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, hiking, exploring and more, not to mention the local casinos, wine country and the list goes on.
