2012 Bass Lake Classic Triathlon:

In 1983 and 1984, at the dawn of the sport of triathlon, the Bass Lake Triathlon hosted the first ever  National Championships for the new sport of triathlon.  Hosted by the United States Triathlon Series and Tri-Fed (now USAT), the list of participants read like a Who's Who of the fledgling sport.  Future world and Ironman champions all raced the challenging waters and roads of Bass Lake.

Bass Lake is situated in the foothills of the Sierras, just hours from San Francisco and Los Angeles and at the gateway to the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park.  Located at just over 3000 feet of altitude in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains,  Bass Lake is surrounded by pines, crisp, clean air and, for the triathletes, rolling, challenging terrain.

Expect temperatures in the mid 70s, with warm, sunny skies.  Water temperature should be in the low 70s, making for a wetsuit legal swim.

Open your summer season at one of the most exciting and challenging venues in all of triathlon.  And after the triathlon, enjoy all that Bass Lake has to offer.  Bass Lake, and the surrounding area, is the gateway to Yosemite Park and offers fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, hiking, exploring and more, not to mention the local casinos, wine country and the list goes on.

At the dawn of triathlon Bass Lake was the place to be.  In 2011 the Bass Lake Classic Triathlon was reinvented.  Now in 2012 the Bass Lake Classic Triathlon joins the list of must do triathlons.  With a swim in the warm, calm and protected waters of Bass Lake, a bike around the lake with challenging hills and screaming downhills and a run along side the lake and through the picturesque town of Bass Lake, the triathlon is again be one of the go to races in California and beyond.
