_ The 2021 Twin Lakes Triathlon and Duathlon:

The 15th Annual Half-Olympic Distance Triathlon and 6th Annual Duathlon will be Saturday, August 14, 2021. Proceeds from the event will benefit Twin Lakes Bible Camp.

The Twin Lakes Triathlon is considered a ‘sprint-distance’ triathlon. A sprint-distance triathlon is typically much shorter than traditional triathlons, often featuring a half-mile, open-water swim, a 15-20 mile bike ride, and a 3-4 mile run. The Twin Lakes Triathlon is a .47 mile swim, a 12.4 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run – roughly half the Olympic distance.

In addition to the Triathlon, a run-bike-run Duathlon is offered. The Twin Lakes Duathlon features a 1.6 mile run, beginning synchronously with the opening swim portion of the Triathlon. The Duathlon then follows the same course – 12.4 mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run – as the Triathlon.

The event will NOT be sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT). We will continue to run high quality and safe races following the guidelines set up by USAT. Historically, 85% of participants have not been USAT members so we decided to reduce our expenses by not paying the sanctioning fee and saving athletes over $15 each for the daily membership. Twin Lakes Bible Camp has adequate insurance coverage so the additional accident coverage was unnecessary.

The other benefit to not being sanctioned is that we can make some minor changes to our routes without re-applying. This will help with race day adjustments to the swim course based on wind direction and eliminate sharp turns on the bike route.

Another benefit is that we can combine categories into more logical age groups, which will create more competition and shorten the awards ceremony.

Still another benefit is the ability to add a youth triathlon event on the same day.
