FOXFIELD RACE COURSE
Space for the Foxfield Course is limited to the first 250 entrants. Most likely the event will fill up prior to race day.  If the in-person event is canceled due to any snow on the field, all registrants will be transferred to the virtual event.  

Masks are required at all times with the exception of when you're actually out running or walking the 5K course. All volunteers will be masked as well.

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to the ongoing hospitality and generosity of the new Foxfield Board of Directors, we will be hosting, a course totally on a finely manicured grass path around the scenic, rolling perimeter of this magnificent property! And because we anticipate that many of you will want to walk or run this exciting and beautiful historic new course, we have set up “time slots” for your walking or running safety and convenience.

The January 1st Foxfield time slots are as follows: 8:45am, 9:00am, 9:15am, 9:30am, 9:45am, 10:00am. 10:15am, 10:30am, 10:45am, 11:00am. Each slot will be limited to 25 openings due to Virginia and Albemarle county COVID-19 safety guidelines. Note that each slot will NOT start together as one single wave. It will be a rolling start so as to keep everyone as physically distanced and safe as possible. You just have to begin your race within 15 minutes after your starting time.

Details on all of our safety protocols for this new Foxfield version will be emailed to you the week of the race. And worried about getting your feet wet? Then bring a dry pair of shoes and socks for the drive home. Let’s have some fun!

Frequently Asked Questions 

Will my shoes get wet out at Foxfield?
Yes. So, please bring a change of shoes and socks for the ride home.

How hilly is the course?
The course will feature a varied mix of ups, downs, and flat sections. 

Will it be a mass start?
No. Participants will start individually or with members of the same household within 15 minutes of the start of their wave slot.  

Do I need to wear a mask?
Yes please, you MUST wear a mask anytime you are NOT on the course.

Will there be bathrooms out at Foxfield?
Yes. We will have portajohns with hand sanitizers.

If I can't make it to Charlottesville, is there another option for me?
Yes, we are also doing a virtual ANYWHERE option!

Should I bring my own water on the day of the race?
That would be very helpful but we will have water on the course and at the finish.

Will there be medical coverage?
Yes. Dr. Robert Wilder, our longtime medical director, will have his UVa Runner's Clinic team at Foxfield to provide the safest medical coverage.

Are strollers or baby carriers allowed on the race course?
No. The Charlottesville Track Club follows the guidelines of the Road Runners Club of America.

It looks like it might rain on race day! What is the weather plan?
The race happens rain or shine, however it will be canceled in the event of any snow on the field (you will then will be transferred to the virtual event). We recommend coming prepared with a raincoat, just in case! 

I don’t want to run 5K, is it okay if I walk?
YES!  We will have a separate path for walkers only that will be parallel to the runners course.

Is there packet pickup?
Yes, please stop by Ragged Mountain to pick up your race bib between December 28-30 (9 am-5 pm) or December 31 (9 am-1 pm).

Who are the race beneficiaries?
Proceeds benefit PACEM and CTC.  

PACEM (People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry) is a grassroots organization that works with 80 local congregations and community groups and 3,000 volunteers to provide Wintertime shelter and related services to the homeless.

Established in 1976, the Charlottesville Track Club (CTC) is the driving force behind running in Central Virginia Each year, the CTC directs some of the most popular local races including the New Year's Day 5K, Charlottesville Women's 4 Miler, Charlottesville Ten Miler, Bruce Barnes Mile, All-Comers Summer Track Meet Series and Rivanna Greenbelt Marathon​. These well-organized, not-for-profit races attract thousands of runners and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities annually.​

Can I switch from the Anywhere virtual event to the Foxfield event (or Foxfield to virtual)?
