The TRI for REAL Series is USAT Sanctioned for 2012, and held at Rancho Seco Park in Herald, California. The course has a 1.5 k swim - 40 k bike - 10 k run. The Series dates for the three races are: June 3, July 8, and August 5, 2012. Series Awards, including a Free entry into the 2013 Tri for Real Series, will be presented to the top male and female racing all three events in each age group.

Course Description:
Swim - The race starts from the beach in with a 1.5 kilometer or .93 mile swim from the beach area. The swim course will be a triangular course in Rancho Seco Lake marked by the large white triangular buoys. Water temperature should be between 68 and 74 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. The swim will exit the lake and head up the beach and on a grassy path to the transition area located in the parking area.

Bike - The 40 kilometer or 24.8 mile bike course will begin after you exit the transition area and then mount your bike. From there you will exit the park and make a right hand turn on Hwy 104, making a U-turn at the turn around point and returning to the park. Please be careful while on the road. Riders must stay to the right at all times! Riders must not draft other riders: You must maintain at least THREE bike lengths at all times behind the rider in front of you, and you MUST ride single file while on the Highway. Passing is allowed in a timely manner when it is safe to do so. After passing return to the right side of the road and continue to ride safely. Failure to do so will result in a drafting penalty or disqualification. Crossing the centerline at ANY time will also result in disqualification. Proceed to the turn around on Hwy 104 and return to the park. Traffic has the right-of-way on the road so ride CAREFULLY. The Bike course will Not have an aid station. Water and electrolyte beverage, along with energy gels will be available in the transition area.

Run - The run course begins directly outside the transition area and is a 10-kilometer or 6.2 mile out-and-back course on fire roads and trails within the park. There will be two aid stations with water and electrolyte beverage, plus energy gels on the run course. One at mile 1.5, and one at the turn-around point: mile 3.1 on the run course. ALL athletes must wear their race number on the front of their body during the run and have it when crossing the finish line.

Directions:

From Sacramento, take Highway 99 south to the Twin Cities Road/Highway 104 exit. Go east on Highway 104, 15 miles, to the Rancho Seco Park exit. Take the first right after passing the two towers.

From the Bay Area, take Highway 80 towards Sacramento.  Take Highway 99 south towards Stockton.  Exit on Highway 104 and head east towards Jackson.  Turn right into Rancho Seco Park.  

From Sunrise Blvd and Highway 50, head south towards Jackson Highway on Sunrise Blvd.  Turn left on Jackson Highway and proceed ~4.5 miles to Dillard Road.  Turn right on Dillard Road.  Turn left on Clay Station Road.  Turn left on Highway 104.  Turn right into Rancho Seco Park

Divisions/Awards:
First place Overall Male and Female in the TRI for Real Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group, and for Clydesdale and Athena divisions for the TRI for Real Triathlon. Relay Team awards will be for the Top three teams in each Division of Male, Female and Coed.

Series Awards, including a Free entry into the 2013 Tri for Real Series, will be presented to the top male and female racing all three events in each ten- year age group at the third and final Tri for Real Triathlon on August 5. 

Equipment:
Expected water temperature for Rancho Seco Park Lake will be 68-74 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed. Swim fins and snorkels are not allowed. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line. Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc... are not allowed.

Competitor Goodies:
Included for each competitor is a Tri for Real Triathlon tech-tee race shirt, XTERRA swim cap, athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar, Emerald Nuts and other product samples.

Post Race Athlete Food:
Included for each competitor is a post race meal of hot pasta with meat and vegetarian protein options, salad, fruit, cookies and beverage.
