The 2020 Racing Rivals Triathlon:
Located at 4701 Slalom Run in Owens Cross Roads, AL, the Racing Rivals Triathlon is a sprint distance tri that raises funds for college scholarships. The event is hosted by the Huntsville-area alumni chapters of Auburn University, Mississippi State University and the University of Alabama. The funds raised by this event will be split by the chapters based on the affiliation designated by each race participant during registration. In addition to the exciting individual competition, there will be a "rivalry" competition between the fans of each school and the winning chapter will be awarded a grand trophy and bragging rights for the next year. This will be an exciting competitive atmosphere with the thrill of the race and the anticipation of being on the eve of football season! The race will originate from Clearwater Lake in Owens Cross Roads, a beautiful private lake nestled in the valley just east of Green Mountain. The lake was designed and is used primarily for competitive water skiing. The very clear water and relatively shallow depths allow for excellent conditions for the swim portion of the competition.
Course Information:
The race will originate at the beautiful Clearwater Lake in Owens Cross Roads, where the 400 meter swim will start from the boat ramp area near the entrance to the neighborhood. The swim will start from the sandy shore, proceed around the southeast turn island and back to the boat ramp. The racers will exit the water using the boat ramp where the transtion area is located. The bikes are literallly feet from the waters edge.
The bike leg will exit the marina area and turn right onto Terry Drake Road (0.5 mile), left on Old Big Cove Road for about 3 miles, head east to stay on Old Big Cove Road for 1.5 miles. Turn left on Old Hwy 431 for 2 miles then turn around at the Tara Manufacturing Plant. Return to Clearwater Lake by following the same route back. The total ride is 12.5 miles.
The run route begins at the transition area and turns left out of Clearwater Lake Subdivision on Terry Drake Road for 0.5 mile. Turn right on Taylor Road, which turns into Old Big Cove Road. Turn around in the parking lot of the church and return using the same route.
