We have been coordinating with USA Triathlon (USAT) and as the situation surrounding COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to evolve. We are monitoring the status of Coronavirus (COVID-19) abroad, in the U.S. and locally. We are in contact with local health department officials regarding best practices for mass participation events and any threat of Coronavirus in Maine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended canceling or postponing events over 50 people for at least eight weeks and the governor of the State of Maine has restricted gatherings over 10 people.
Following the guidance of health officials, Bowdoin College has closed its facilities until at least the end of May. To that end, the Polar Bear Triathlon / Duathlon has been postponed. As the longest running multisport race in Maine, we are committed to hosting the 18th annual event on a later date. We are working with Bowdoin College, the Town of Brunswick and USA Triathlon (USAT) to finalize a date in October.
