_ The 2019 DSSW Parade of Stars:

What is This?

The Parade of Stars: Down Syndrome Awareness Day of Giving is the largest event sponsored by the Down Syndrome Society of Wichita. This event, formerly known as the Buddy Walk, is a one-mile parade route, along with our annual (and largest) day of giving AND largest opportunity for volunteers to show their support! The parade route is followed by lunch for all, a community vendor fair and fun activities! Over the past 15 years, the event has included bounce houses, clowns, music, dancing, games, face painting, basket drawings, photo booth, and much more! The purpose of the walk is to help promote awareness, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. It is an inspirational and educational event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome.

Last year's event had a great impact on our community! We had 2,500 participants and raised over $95,000! This fun family event would not be possible without our participants, donors, sponsors, and the dedication of our planning team. We are looking forward to a great day of celebration.

Who are We?

The Down Syndrome Society of Wichita is here to serve individuals with Down syndrome and their community including medical professionals, educators, supporters and of course families! While our name ends with Wichita, our serving area stretches across the lower one-third portion of Kansas - all the way to Liberal. We provide resources, tools and connections for families starting at birth throughout their lives.

This year, we've added some new and exciting things to the mix:

  • DS Swag Stop - While the event shirts will be available for those wanting to contribute onsite, we will also have added swag you can purchase. Information will be provided by email.
  • Parade Route - While we've always had fun walking for the cause, we've upped the excitement by creating a more parade-like route! Bring your signs, posters, decorate your wagons, put on fun costumes, do whatever you wish. We're celebrating in a major way! Our route is below.
  • Teen/Adult Activity Area- You spoke, we listened! We have added a teens and adults area to provide additional activities for those who are a little older or feel like the game area are too immature for their liking. We want everyone to have a great time!
  • New Giving Options - we understand that many teams don't feel they have the time or energy to do peer to peer fundraising. We get it! We've added additional help tools that will allow you to do fundraising with ease for your team!
  • Improved Layout - Last year was the first time at Riverside Park. We learned and grew and now have an improved mapping process in place to ensure the layout is clear and easy to navigate for you.

All sales are final. No refunds.
