It is with great honor and enthusiasm that we welcome Renaissance City Triathlon to the Team Magic family of races. Bradley and Jordyn Dean built an amazing race and we are very grateful for the opportunity to lead the event into its 6th year and beyond.
New and veteran triathletes will be able to select a suitable challenge with the addition of a sprint distance race and olympic option. The event will be held in beautiful McFarland Park with a swim in the Tennessee River to kick things off. Athletes will then get to see the best of Florence as they bike a scenic loop of Savannah Highway and return on Gunwaleford Road. Finally the run will take racers through downtown giving them a glimpse of the city’s many historic locations.
Come enjoy all that Florence has to offer!
The Renaissance Man is a challenging and scenic course that covers many historic landmarks along the routes. The swim takes place in the lock channel just below the Wilson Dam and is very spectator friendly. The bike route features a fast time trial design with a few climbs that are challenging yet eye-watering fast on the descents. The run will test your endurance early on, but gives back momentum on the last three miles into the finish line. NEW for 2019, a sprint distance has been added. Tell your family and friends, we have options for everyone!
Olympic 1.5k | Sprint 400m
Starting from the beach area in a time trial format, swimmers will head out of the harbor and go under O'Neal bridge. The lock channel has very little current and will make for a great swim. The NEW sprint course simply takes a turn early in the Olympic course. The courses will have color coded buoys making it easy to know when to make the turn for your race distance. From there the swim is straight back to the beach at McFarland Park. Transition is just a few feet from the beach area.
Bring your wetsuit! The water temperature in May is likely to be lower than 78F. Look for updates on your pre-race email race week.
USA Triathlon Wet Suit Rules:
Article 4.4: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wet suit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees, but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wet suit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards.
The bike route is fast and should be great for a personal record. Enjoy scenic county views just on the outskirts of Florence. Rolling hills and very few turns means the focus can stay on cadence and not breaking in preparation for turns. The NEW sprint course simply takes a turn early in the Olympic course, then reconnects. See course maps for clarity.
Olympic 10k | Sprint 5k
The run course starts off flat and gives you time to shake out your bike legs. For the next half mile it is slightly uphill on the way into downtown Florence. It's a straight shot to UNA for an easy loop around the campus before striding back down to McFarland Park though one last trip downtown and a beautiful historic neighborhood featuring a home by Frank Lloyd Wright. The NEW sprint course simply takes a turn early in the Olympic course, then reconnects at the final approach to the finish line. See course maps for clarity.
