INTRODUCTION
Red Rock proudly announces the EIGHTH year of the Soma Triathlon. This is our marquee event and we plan on making it yours too! Come out and race in the same location as Ironman AZ...swim in the same lake, ride bits and pieces of the same bike course, and finish in the same location. This event is a great tune up for Ironman or just a great way to get out and compete in a half in a pheomenal setting. Race this one and you will get a Head Sweats visor, a tech tee and one heck of a good time!
In 2011, Soma Triathlon will be the 6th and final event in the Red Rock Co Arizona Triathlon Series. This is your last chance to add those Series points toward earning the Tri Series WWF Belt!!!
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
All participants start at Tempe Beach Park, on the south bank, just west of the Mill Avenue Bridge.
Notes on the Course - The swim takes place in a man-made lake that is very calm unless there are high winds (ie storm force). The swim course will be a rectangle for all athletes. Water temperatures will be in the mid 70's (approximate) degrees (Note 78 degrees considered wetsuit legal by USAT). The bike portion is a relatively flat, urban, looped course; each loop is approximately 18.5 miles. The run is a 6.5 mile loop around Tempe Town Lake with some great views of ASU and the developing landscape of Tempe! All athletes must complete 3 loops of the bike and 2 loops of the run course respectively.
CUTOFF TIMES
(Subject to change based on safety of course etc)
Historically, we have not had cutoffs, however due to the safety, cost and potential impact on the surrounding community, local businesses, our staff and the park, we must adhere to the following guidelines. Thank you!
Weather - historical weather has high temperatures in the high 80's, with low's in the mid 60's. Its a dry heat! The race starts cool and heats up while you do.
