Race Site Location Holiday Lake (holidaylakebrooklynia.com) is a private recreational lake located six miles north of Brooklyn, IA, centrally located between Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Iowa City and Waterloo. It is approximately 60-90 minutes from any of these cities. "Holiday Lakers" like to call it one of Iowa's "Best Kept Secrets". The Holiday Lake Association is proud of its facilities and is looking forward to making this a wonderful race for the athlete as well as their guests/families. Proceeds will go towards the Holiday Lake Community Center.
Swim
Wave starts begin at 9:00 a.m. This will ease the burden of having to get up too early and/or find overnight lodging. The 500-meter swim will start from the Leslie "Bud" Showalter Memorial Beach. The course is an out-and-back swim parallel to the dam. This will allow for a great deal of safety for the entire swim. This will also give spectators great views of the entire swim. Boats and safety personnel will be on the lake at all times. Wet suits most likely will be allowed.
The water temperature was 61 degrees for last year's race on May 15, 2010.
Bike
The challenging 25k bike course will follow V18 to Highway 6 and back. All bikers must have an ANSI approved helmet to participate. Bikers without helmets will not be allowed on the course. No drafting allowed.
Run
The 5k run along Holiday Lake will challenge even the best runner with its ever-changing elevations. The run is completely separated from the bike course and within the confines of Holiday Lake residential area. Participants will finish the out and back run in front of the Holiday Lake Community Center.
