2011 South Shore Triathlon at Oneida Shores Park:

  • Oneida Shores Park is a County Park on the southern shore of Oneida Lake.
  • Oneida Lake is the largest lake entirely within New York State.
  • The lake is located north of Syracuse and near the Great Lakes. Oneida Lake is a remnant of a large prehistoric lake formed when glaciers blocked the current outlet of the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence River.
  • Today, it empties into the Oneida River which flows into the Oswego River which in turn flows into Lake Ontario.
  • Oneida Lake has become a popular summer boating destination, thanks to its shallow water and sandy bottom. Oneida Shores Park is known mainly for its large beach.
