2011 Harvest Moon Triathlon, Duathlon & Aquabike:

The 12th edition of this event takes place at the beautiful Aurora Reservoir.
Est. in 2000 this Colorado classic provides the community a challenging, affordable,
and competitive race with a local flavor. Whether this is your final event of
the season, or a tune-up for a fall Ironman, don't miss the Harvest Moon!

2011 Harvest Moon Aquabike:
  • Colorados only Half Distance Aquabike is the fastest growing event of the Harvest Moon. Attracting athletes who need a training event without the impact of a half-marathon, athletes who are swim-bikers by nature and can finally be rewarded for it, or athletes protecting those knees after a lifetime of competition!
  • The 3rd Annual Harvest Moon Aquabike is a 1.2 Mile Swim, 56 mile bike event followed by a 200 meter run to the finish line.
  • AquaBikers will all begin in the same wave of the swim. Participants will follow the same swim and bike courses as the triathletes. Upon finishing the bike, AquaBikers will complete the first 150 meters of the run course with the triathletes, then veer left to cross the finish line.

  • Course Information:

    Swim:
  • Swimmers will complete a 1.2 mile triangular shaped swim route in the Aurora Reservoir, starting and finishing on the sandy beach to the left of the pavilion.
  • The start will be in waves which will be posted at packet pick-up locations and on our website 1 week before the event.
  • Water temperature in the reservoir in early September is typically in the sixties, so wetsuits will are encouraged.

    DUATHLETES ONLY: 5K Run
  • The Harvest Moon Duathlon is a 5K (3.1 mile) run, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run event.
  • Duathletes will all begin in the same wave after all of the swimmers in the Tri have entered the water.
  • Following the gently rolling opening run, racers will then follow the same bike and second run courses as the triathletes. There are no aid stations on the first 5K run. The course is completely closed to traffic.

    Bike:
  • The 56 mile bike course will cover a mix of hilly terrain and long flats through the farm & ranch country of eastern Colorado.
  • The start and finish will be the hilliest part of the course. Riders will complete a 46 mile loop, with a 5-mile out-and-back spur located in the first half of the course.
  • The route will follow paved rural country roads as well as a 9-mile stretch of I-70. Drafting is not permitted on any portion of the bike course, and weenies who do will be penalized!!!
  • Bike Aid Stations: There will be 3 water bottle hand-ups on the bike course stocked with water and Gatorade. Please discard all empty bottles at these zones only.
  • Approximately 15 miles: On the map, this is on Quincy, shortly before the turn onto Watkins Road.
  • Approximately 33 miles: On the map, this is on Hwy 36 in Bennett, shortly after you make the the turn from Hwy. 79.
  • Approximately 44 miles: On the map, this is on Watkins Road, a couple of miles after you cross I-70.

    Run:
  • The 13.1 mile run course is a winding route on the asphalt bike path around Aurora Reservoir - THE RUN COURSE IS NOT on concrete.. The run will be an out and back format, with aid stations at each mile.
  • The terrain is flat to gently rolling, and the course is completely closed to motor vehicles.
  • The run leaves the back corner of the upper parking lot and travels counter clockwise around the lake to a turn-around point on the dam, then returns via the same route to finish near the pavilion at Aurora Reservoir swim beach.
  • Aid Stations will be located at each mile of the run. Water will be available at all aid stations.
  • Gatorade will be available at every aid station. Food will be available at miles 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, and 12.
  • Ice will also be available on the course!!!
  • Directions:

    Directions To Race:
  • The race site is the Aurora Reservoir, located a short drive from Denver.
  • Spectators will be charged a $4.00 per vehicle entrance fee to the park. This fee will be waived for athletes on race day.
  • The most direct route is to take I-70 east from Denver, & exit onto I-225.
  • Exit I-225 at 6th Ave. & turn left (east). 6th Ave. eventually becomes Gun Club Rd.
  • Stay on this road as it continues past Buckley AFB. A short time later you will see signs for Quincy Ave & the Aurora Reservoir.
  • Turn left on Quincy & right into the reservoir.

    The 2011 TriSports.com USAT Halfmax Championship makes its move to the
    next level! Ultramax Events, USA Triathlon and the Harvest Moon Triathlon
    have partnered to bring you the nation's most exciting age group championship
    combination EVER! The TriSports.com Halfmax National Championship is
    entering its sixth year and is supported by qualifying events that reach coastto-
    coast. We are very proud to have been selected as one of the nation's 14
    Official Qualifying Events.

    IMPORTANT UPDATE
    The 2011 Long Course World Triathlon Championships will be hosted in Las
    Vegas, NV on November 5, 2011. The 2010 TriSports.com Halfmax Championship
    will be the SOLE qualifying event for the 2011 World Championships. You
    must qualify for the Halfmax Championship at one of the qualifying events or
    race under the set time standards at a USAT sanctioned half iron-distance
    event. The 2010 Qualifying Standards have been updated and online now!
    General Entry registrants will not be eligible to compete for the World Championship
    Slots.

    HARVEST MOON QUALIFYING
    As a participant in the Harvest Moon Triathlon, you have the benefit of being
    able to qualify for the Championship two different ways. You can finish in the
    Top 33% of your respective age group, or you can qualify by the established
    qualifying times (specific for each age group). Only athletes who participate in
    a Qualifying Event have the opportunity to qualify for the Championship by
    age-group finish. Review the complete qualifying process* at
    www.halfmaxchampionship.com. The Halfmax Championship will feature a
    minimum of 10 slots per age group for Team USA and the 2011 Long Course
    Triathlon World Championship.
