2011 MedWest-Haywood Triathlon:

  • We are extremely pleased to announce the return of triathlon to the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center.
  • The Med West-Haywood Triathlon will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 and will retain the same course and distances as the old Haymed Triathlon. We believe this will provide triathletes, particulary beginners, with a great race to replace the Asheville Triathlon.

    When: Saturday, July 9, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. 

    Where: Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center - 75 Leroy George Drive - Clyde, NC 

    Distances: 300 yard pool Swim, 10 mile Bike, 5K Run 

    • Course Information:


    Swim:
  • The 300 yard swim will take place in the pool at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center in Clyde, just twenty minutes from Asheville.
  • This clean, modern facility features a six-lane, 25 yard pool in which the athletes will swim two lengths in each lane before moving to the next lane.
  • After the 300 yard swim, athletes will exit the pool area to the outside transition area.

    Bike:
  • The bike course was redesigned in 2009 and is now a much flatter and faster track.
  • Athletes will ride along the scenic Pigeon River and through farmlands before heading back to the race site on a two-lane highway.
  • The roads will be open to the public so all participants are urged to be alert to traffic.
  • All intersections with a traffic light and/or turn will have law enforcement or fire departments stopping traffic.

    Run:
  • The run will go in and out of a beautiful little cove that features rolling terrain. Runners will stay on the right side of the road for the run.
  • While the road will be open to traffic, most of the course is lightly traveled.
