2011 Mideast Optimist Sprint Triathlon:

  • The 18th Annual Warsaw Optimist Triathlon Race will be held on June 26th at Winona Lake Park in Winona Lake, In.
  • This race is one of the largest and oldest Triathlon events in northern Indiana. It is a USAT sanctioned event sponsored by a not for profit organization that contributes all proceeds to fund youth activities.
  • Participants may elect to enter either as an individual, or as a team of 2 or 3 racers.
  • The MINIMUM age for entry is 15 years. This applies to a solo triathlete or as a member of a team.

    USA Triathlon required age group divisions for solo:
  • Adult: 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+.
  • Athena and Clydesdale divisions are also available.

  • All racers are provided a timing chip to accurately record their time at each event.
  • A free first timers class will be held on Friday evening June 24th at Winona Lake Park for those that are just entering this fun and healthy sport.
  • The price of Registration includes a free meal after the race, a race t-shirt, swim caps, an awards event after the race, and a merchandise drawing for everyone.
  • BBQ chicken, pizza, perogies, fruit and vegetables, and other food for the post race party will be available.
  • Food and water will be available for family and friends at a reasonable cost.
  • This is a competitive race with a family atmosphere.

    • Course Information:


  • The course includes a 14 mile swim, 13.8 mile bike and a 3.5 mile run event.
  • The open water swim is out and back.
  • The Bike is on an open to traffic course, mostly flat, on a rural road, a few hills at the beginning and at the end.
  • The Run is mostly flat, on city streets, on a Greenway through a forest, on residential streets, back on Greenway, up and down one hill to the finish line.

  • Winona Lake is next to Warsaw, Indiana in Kosciusko County in North Central Indiana.
  • Highway 30 is the closest major East /West highway and Highway 15 is the nearest North / South highway.
  • Warsaw is about 40 miles west of Ft. Wayne, In.

  • This is a family oriented event but with a high level of competition since it is the only authorized State of Indiana Qualifier race for the Best of the US amateur competition.
  • The group that organizes and runs this race has 18 years of experience and strives to make this race the best race in Indiana.
