The Dunedin Triathlon has been one of Florida's most desired and favorite sprint distance triathlons since it's launch in 2004. Attracting nearly 1,000 participants, hundreds of which are newbies, the Dunedin Triathlon offers an atmosphere that is full of fun for any level of participant seeking the challenge of swim/bike/run. This event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Dunedin and has raised over $300,000 in youth scholarships and special projects that support the Dunedin area. The venue, Honeymoon Island State Park, has repeatedly been named on the top beaches and travel destinations worldwide. All registrants are asked to arrive on Honeymoon Island by 7 a.m. for our 7:30 a.m. race start witch begins with your youth athletes age 16 which is immediately followed by pro's and amateur elites with age group waves following every 3 minutes thereafter. The goal with the swim is always to set depth chest deep on a 5'8" person. If you ever feel uncomfortable the course is set where you can make your way closer to the shoreline in very shallow water. Our fall 2015 beach renovation project suggests Dunedin will be named the top swim location for sprint triathlons on the west central coast of Florida. After you complete the quarter mile swim you will exit the water at transition area where you begin a two lap 6 mile course (12 total miles) on your bike across beautiful Dunedin Causeway and Honeymoon Island. Come back into T2 (transition 2) rack your bike and you are off onto the final leg of the race, a 5K run into the Osprey Trail system of Honeymoon Island. You will be greeted at the finish line with droves of Rotary volunteers waiting for you with a large and heavy finisher's medal that truly brags about your race day feat. Wear this medal with pride and choose one of our many photo ops as your participation is a direct benefit to a deserving college student and community projects that give Dunedin the great reputation is has for being one of the best towns in America! If you are coming from out of town we suggest you stay for the night to enjoy historic downtown Dunedin famous for strolling shops and a downtown atmosphere you rarely find. Holiday Inn Express on Bayshore Blvd. or the Best Western Yacht Harbor Inn at Dunedin Marina are among our top choices for affordability and comfort. If you want a view of the water and fun poolside bar try Beso Del Sol across from Eddies Bar and Grill on Bayshore Blvd.
